NOT written by me, yet resonates so true I Trusted You I trusted you not to hurt me, I trusted you not to lie to me, I trusted you to love me unconditionally, I trusted you to be there no matter what, I trusted you to speak to me with respect, I trusted you to stand up for me, I trusted you to accept me for who I am, I trusted you. When I look in the mirror into the eyes of the girl staring back at me, I realize there’s a lot of trust to build between us. I still see the bullied girl on the bus, the scared trying to figure it out, the young woman shaking in the bottom of the shower trying to wash the night away. I close my eyes and make a promise to do better. A promise to start building trust with the woman looking back at her. |
