Covid and the work place..is it an instant 2 week vacation Im starting to wonder if people are using contact tracing as an excuse to just take two weeks off of work. I work for a small mom and pops...twice now the guy in back claims people he knows tested positive and he now has to go into quarrenteen. Sure hes not getting paid..but...i could use a vacation right about now myself... In your workplace do employees have to show some contact tracing paperwork or anything ,. I mean sure this guy will get a free test at some local drive up after 14 days But beyond that..??? It would be easy to say my brothers cousin on my mothers side tested positive and im gone for 2 weeks...meanwhile he's probably in Colorado getting high for 2 weeks on vacation |

In the UK you get paid (by the Gov indirectly), you get an immediate test and isolate until the result is through and the fuss is it takes 4 days. However the pay you get comes out of SSP (that is statutory sick pay - Gov limits this at 6 weeks/year). High taxes = high benefits

Right or wrong I took advantage of my work place requirements for working. They were also looking at laying people off so I claimed sick. I only have a few months before I retire so why lay the young people off? They kept saying they were not changing their thinking. A few of us claimed breathing issues ( mine is actually legit and have been scheduled for more tests), in so doing we are on the covid pay that was put in place. The young people stay at work and 5 of us get to practice retirement. A win win for all. My boss, his boss and even his boss all know what I am doing and off the record agree with it. If I worked at a small mom/pop shop or just a few people I do not think I would. It is easier with a multinational.
