Now i'm not an expert but..

There was a law passed in the nixon era to keep taxes private..so not to be weaponozed and used to damage one's political opponents.

I'm under the assumption this is why trump was never forced to release them.

Now the AG of new york won a court battle to see them

And i'm a lil confused. To legally press for this info wouldnt she need some form of warrant..

And to get said warrent wouldnt she need to provide some sorta evidence that trump committed a crime to a judge.
And how does she get evidence if she never saw the returns

???

So what's the evidence then...what has trump supposively done specifically..what's the charge?

Or is this some activist judge letting the actual rule of law slide?

Even funnier that the scotus..the supreme protector of law said they don't want any part of this..

You could say tax fraud...but you really dont know that without looking at his returns..

So to me anyway this seems like a political fishing expedition..

To which that nixon law was supposed to prevent..

And if it can be done to trump then why not ted cruise or nancy pelosi or the clintons.

How can you secure a warrent w/o evidence of a crime??

This is complete baffling to me..just somemore shady shit

This would be like me going before a judge and saying..

Well he's trump..he's obviously a crook and i need a warrent to search his house to see if he's dealing..

It doesn't work that way...but it is new york where they allowed the police to literally search people for being black.

Remember one other thing - they already have the returns - they want him to produce them in the hopes they can find a minor correction or something changed - it doesnt matter if it is material or not just that it happened - and if you think he actually prepares and files and does all the accounting for himself - well guess that would just everyone where you sit

So...what if his taxes showed who he was dealing with? He must have "worked" with some mob figures in New York - those skyscrapers didn't get built without help from the mafia. Then there is insurance and other fraud.

I'm sure that there's nothing untoward in them right...besides Trump promised to publish his tax returns, but that was before he decided to run for office. What is he hiding?

When a prosecutor has a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed and has sufficient evidence to support that suspicion they can ask a judge for a subpoena requiring the defendant to produce whatever documents are asked for. The defendant can object to producing them and the court then decides. Either side can appeal the decisions until all options are gone. Trumps tax returns are surely complex and will be closely examined by forensic accountants I'm sure. I think the primary question is how his properties were valued by him (and the Trump Organization) . Were the properties undervalued to avoid paying whatever the appropriate taxes were and to get lower insurance rates but then over valued in order to obtain loans with the property as collateral and higher insurance payouts. Both of those would be fraud.
