Joining a gym for the new year...my advice


See below this might be long..please be patient

1. Pay for the type of gym you need. But in the end a gym is a gym.
There is a reason planet pizza is still charging 10 bucks a month for over 30 yrs..and still in business

Cause most of us only need the bare basics.

2. A prison mentality
...yes...unfortately unless your a member at a pricey gym...esp at the start of the year.
You will have to deal with some over crowding and yeah
people literally sitting on machines,hogging them...while on their cell phones.

And planet pizza employees will tell you there is no time limit/ will not tell that member to get off the phone..

So my advice is to just chill...people Hog the smith machines like crazy.
At times it feels like your in prision and all the big dudes are dominating the benches.

But in my opinion their other machines offer a safer way to work out and are rarely crowded.

People are so fixated on free weights and putting up numbers for tiktok vids..

But in reality one should be focused on tiring out the muscles,not locking out,keeping the muscles isolated and under constant tension,etc.

All these girls now want to Hog the smith machines to do squats...???
(Why??? Your ass would be firmer from simply running???) Which you can do for free

When the vacant leg press machine sits unused and can give you a safer,better workout.
Yes..you can get strong,big legs without squatting

3. Looking

I think tiktok has ruined the gym experience for most women.,,with It's fake AF vids of hott girl wearing basically nothing..working out for two seconds in an empty gym..
Then here comes " creepy guy" into the shot that stops and watches her...Good thing she recorded that and then uploaded it to tiktok for views and likes.
Wink wink
Instead of getting the gym's manager.
Fake AF..for fame,views and $$$

Sure people look...but all people look...men/ women/old/ young/white/ black/ latino/ straight/ gay..

People look because your all in one big ole room..

And yes I'd had women,gay men,the elderly watch me lift...hell a bbw watched me bench yesterday and I didn't freak out..didn't record her..didn't upload it to whatever..didn't make myself out to be a victim..
I certainly didn't call out her natural behavior and shame her

I motto is..

if your enjoyed the lift..,stick around and enjoy the show..

And not everyone looking is trying to get with you..

Some people look because they enjoy people lifting heavy weights..like I can throw 130lbs on each side of a smith bar for shrugs. It's fun to watch.

4. 5 days a week

Don't think you need to live at the gym.
Most changes in your body really depend on things outside a gym..like your diet,your metabolism,your stress levels,the amount of sleep you get..

Nothing worse than the person that now views a gym as a bar,a place to hang out or it becomes their new religion.

And i dont care if you researched this great 5 day full body split for lifting..

Lifting is mental..

I can lift sick..I can lift tired..I can lift hurt even..
As long as I'm into mentally..

If I'm not getting pleasure out of lifting...then I need to leave the gym that day and cut back my sessions.

Exercise is a grind..and you need to be in the proper head space

5. The gym isnt a miracle worker...most people rejoin a gym with hopes of dropping x amount of pounds or putting on x amount of muscle..

Gyms are good. But you have to understand what your currently doing to your body and what you need to do to obtain your goals. What changes do you need to make..

6. Finally tip...most will Hog certain machines...
Let them...
You..we all need to be hogging the treadmills...

And as much as I hate cardio...trust me with just walking on a treadmill with an incline...
Anyone can do 30 minutes with a slight incline..

Then as you change..add time ..speed.slope of the incline.

In my opinion..the best machine in a gym for making progress..becoming that change.
