So yeah on Wednesday I went to see the doc for my bp. I got a top reading of 150.. He wrote me 2 scripts.. 1 for amlodipine 1 for clonidine. And after 5 days of taking amlodipine I'm wondering why my bp isn't going down.. Did I suddenly do on a drunken rampage..did I eat a buttload of salty/ greasy fatfood... Fuck no..I stopped drinking coffee, ate a salad, hit the gym and walked 10 miles today.. And no change in bp.. ??? Oh wait..amlodipine is the tortoise drug that takes 4 to 10 days to see the effects... Okay.. But then doc sorta winked and said he liked prescribing clonidine for truckers/ those with white coat fright, etc..he said it is also used as a sleep aid I thought it was a sleep aid like melatonin or something to chill me out like Xanax.. NOPE...turns out clonidine is the rabbit and is readily used by the body, has a short life and peeks in like 3 hrs. It's a BP drug..not a sleep aid. Huh???? And ironically doc told me to just take 1 before the test... Yet there is a 30 day supply in both bottles So yeah I said fuck it...took the rabbit see if it doesn't kick down my bp numbers as I'm waiting.. For the tortoise.. Unfortunately for me... The new boss hasn't told me when he wants me to take that new hirer physical. I'll try and find out tomorrow.. But it could be tomorrow.. Sooo yeah... Fun times...I don't blame the doctor...new boss sprung the need for a DOT physical on me friday

All doctors are only human.....there are good ones and bad ones....

If they are usually right then they can be usually wrong. If they are right...that's good.....if they are wrong.....you may be dead right. Try not to use the one named Sum Ting Wong......

Yes, but they are usually right. Take the clonidine 2 to 3 hours before a BP test. I wish I had taken it before my flight physical for the astronaut corp..... however, I am 6' 3.5" and 230 lbs. Too tall, the tallest astronaut, was 6' 2" and 185 lbs. I kinda was screwed from day 1; but incredibly honored to be asked to have a flight physical! Of course he is about 8 years older than you.

my dr says that give BP meds 2-3 hours to take effect. I've read that beet powder is a good source of nitric oxide which relaxes the blood vessels and that can have a short term effect. good luck with the physical and your bp.

I know about screwed from day one. As badly as we needed chopper pilots during nam I figured being a private pilot for years that WO flight school would be a snap. Was sent to Ft Wolters, Tx for mental and physical test. Test were no problem at all. Standing in line to exit the bldg for the bus I saw my demise. The proverbial color test booklet of pastel colored circles that one is suppose to see numbers displayed. I knew that was the end. I tried to get an idea of what the numbers might be as the line slowly got closer but to no avail. Alas, as usual I could not see one damn number out of a 100 or so pages....application stamped "COLOR BLIND" APPLICATION DENIED!
