It's out...omg God it's out...I finally got that alternator out

Just a quick update...

It literally took me 2 days to extract 3 bolts..I'm guessing it is the original part...from an 08 rav 4

And sure I made some rookie mistakes..

But omg Toyota engineers why would you design an engine this way.

My hands are scratched,bleeding,sore AF...

And I don't even wanna compare this to giving birth..
But I was overjoyed to pull that alternator free..

Funny how none of the youtubers ran into the problems I did..

I'm guessing this alternator has been in there since 08..

And the youtubers...most likely changed it out previously..

The bolts were seized in on the casting

great job - glad you didn't have to drill them out. I'd be interested in hearing how you got them to loosen up.

always use an impact wrench when removing bolts. I have a stubby cordless for that purpose. A breaker bar will sometimes break off a bolt but an impact is much less likely to unless you use it to tighten with. Impact off..hand tighten with a torque wrench. A Milwaukee right angle 3/8 impact wrench might make life easier for you.

Accessories are always mounted on an engine before it's mounted into a vehicle. The manufacturer doesnt care what you have to do to work on their product after you've purchased it.

Some work may have to be done while the engine is out of the vehicle. Most engine are installed through the bottom of the engine compartment, making it necessary to have specialized equipment that only a shop is going to have.

If you're going to work on your own vehicle. Always look under the hood to see how difficult it's going to be before you purchase.

Anything that you remove that has threads should be lubricated before assembly.

One more thing..Take your time and do it right. Hurry up means fuck up.

I'm only telling you what I'd do. I'm sure you could find alternatives...maybe.
