First off..

The boss comes bouncing up to me and wants me ( lucky me) to participate in this health/ wellness screening..the company is a part of

Which basically is a blood draw...

He claims if I participate I will get a premium on the company insurance and save so much a month..like 40 bucks

On this sheet of paper it claims these testing labs( that are doing the blood draw screenings )will not share your info/ results w the company or 3rd party.

Now I'm not stupid and companies never lie...your insurance company would luv the results from test you willingly took.

It's amazing what a blood test could tell you about your health..

But if this was really on the up and up..

Then where is the hussle?

Nobody does blood draws for free..

I'm thinking perhaps someone could be starting their own DNA database..perhaps the government or a big corporation. You willingly not only gave blood..you gave your dna

Why would an insurance company lower your rates willingly..esp for doing a blood test...???
Especially
If they had no access..wink wink..to those results..

I thought perhaps someone in the ,medical field or works in insurance could explain this one to me

I am NOT in the medical field or work in insurance at all.
There are some co. around here that have been doing that. They can find out how well organs such as your kidneys, liver, heart, or thyroid are working. Help diagnose diseases such as cancer, diabetes, coronary heart disease, and hiv/aids. After talking to others about their results they had gotten a common theme seemed to be that you were border line anemic (needed to take 1,000mg B12 a day) and your kidneys were not functioning but at 90-95%. A couple were told they were border line diabetic and a few had elevated cholesterol. I guess the co. ins. figured that if you would take the blood test and it showed anything you would go to your dr and nip it in the bud saving them BIG BUCKS in the long run. But I did like your take on starting their own DNA database....... Be sure and re-post if anything comes of it.......

But the line..We won't share the results with your company or 3rd party etc..

What if the insurance companies own these testing labs...are they still considered a 3rd party.

People have to understand that your insurance rate is based on factors like age, gender and how many in your pool.

Unless they have specific knowledge of your actual health..

Saving 40 bucks a month seems stupid if the blood test comes back bad..

And then my rates somehow skyrocket..

This is my worry.

I'm not big on a freebie health screening in conjunction with my workplace..

I also wonder if this is a government lab test...

Perhaps testing your blood for something else..like say vivid or the new tb from central america.

Or perhaps the labs are selling portions of the data to drug companies
