This just made me smile.....i've spent a little time in Denver and the shear magnitude of the beauty and the Rockies makes one very humble.

Rocky Mt. Nat. Park is very beautiful, A bit closer to Denver try Mt. Evans off I-70 just before Idaho Springs, lots of mt. Goats and another 14 thousand foot Mt. you drive to the top.

poetess

It is indeed mystical and I love your beautiful description

A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. George Bernard Shaw

You write beautifully. I was born here. I am very fond and protective of Colorado. But you remind me I take it for granted. I've had many relatives from the Midwest that, literally, fear our excursions up to Rocky Mountain park.

As I read your commentary, I realized you were restoring some of the "newness" that I can never fully experience again. There is an excitement in my chest that almost constitutes jealousy. I know what you still get to experience for the first time.

I can't wait to see your impressions of the first time you climb a 14'er and the music you choose for that. I'm sure you've heard of Ouray but hopefully, you have not yet visited it. Your prose for the event will likely be quite special.

Just south of Ouray is a very special place to me, Durango. They have a train that takes you north to Silverton. You can do a one-way ride and return on a Bus as the train ride is about twice as long as the bus trip. I looked up their schedule, and they will begin rides on June 23. If you like camping and hiking, the train ride is eye candy, as you will realize you could spend a lifetime just in the San Juan mountains.

One last suggestion. I highly suggest you read Michener's Centennial , as he had that transplant's affection for Colorado that shows up in the book. He'll inspire some ideas for other trips.

I love your sense of adventure driving into that gorgeous country. I bet the trip would have been a little more enjoyable if you had an oxygen tank. None the less, this is the time to explore while your body is still young..

Nothing more freeing than being out in the wild recording with camera all the creatures and panoramic vistas you encounter.

Photographic journeys since retirement have been my vacation of choice. Sounds like a glorious day.
