Stop and Smell The Roses

Sitting in mo.mmy dearest's(MD'S) ICU room, it was quiet, and I was thankful for being able to see raindrops, as they trickled down the window. I could hear her sleeping peacefully. I wasn't panicking, and yet this was such an intense situation. It felt as if I had become wiser with every hundred miles I had traversed to get here.

Tim said for me to "Stop and smell the Roses". It seemed even he was hanging about, because outside her room was a rose bush in full bloom. I asked the nurse about it and she said, it was a special rose that bloomed in Autumn. Walking out for a break, I had to stop and smell those roses. That gave me some comfort and I smiled in grateful appreciation.

And, as I sat on the pretty bench, in the million dollar atrium full of roses, I had a good cleansing cry for a few moments. When I stopped, I swore I could feel his hand on my back as he had always done to soothe me. For the first time in a while, I felt his calm settle over me, like a warm blanket out of the dryer that smells amazingly clean.

As far as MD, there are layers of issues I am having to unravel and find solutions for while hopefully answering my own. One day, as she tried to manipulate to get her way and be released early, I had to admit Tim was right when he said I was made from the same mold as her. I also recognized that he was right, he said I had "two ears for listening and one mouth to speak for a reason. I'm learning to listen, and only open my mouth when I think over what I am going to say..

I left my MD at the hospital when she became able to walk and was on the mend. I had to get back and couldn't wait to land in Colorado. Quarantined a few days, until I could take a COVID test and get negative results back. The day I got them back, I was scheduled to work in the salon to make up for time lost...

But do we ever make up for lost time? Not really.
All we can do is live today, and be here now.
And, most of all, take time to smell the roses

A Rose Is Still A Rose
Aretha Franklin

Doo doo doo doo doo doo mmm
Dooby dooby doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo mmm
There was a rose I knew, I met her once or twice before (once or twice before)
She was a pretty sweet thing, not the least bit insecure (insecure)
Then you came with your slick game and played with her youth (her youth)
unashamed of the way you lied, played with the truth, hey, hey
Mmm, she never knew what hit her (what hit her)
Steal her honey, then forget her (forget her, forget her, forget her)
And the rose (is gone)
and she wears a flower
she tryin' to forget about you
'Cause a rose is still a rose (still a rose)
Baby, girl, you're still a flower (still a flower)
He can't lead you and then take you
Make you and then break you
Darlin', you hold the power (you hold the power)
Now believe me when I tell you that I've been hurt myself (been hurt myself)
When he tells you that he loves you and sees nobody else (nobody else)
And now you're so tough tryin' to wear tight clothes and things
Tossin' and flossin', tryin' to fill the void heartbreak brings
Oh, oh, yeah
When she faces the mirror, yeah
She's cryin', and you can't hear her
Now the rose is gone (rose is gone)
She wears a flower, tryin' to forget about you
'Cause a rose is still a rose (still a rose)
Baby, girl, you're still a flower (you're still a flower)
He can't lead you and then take you
Make you and then break you (break you)
Baby, girl, you hold the power
See a rose is still a rose (still a rose)
Baby, girl, you're still a flower
He can't lead you and then take you
Make you and then break you (break you)
Darlin' (oh darlin', you hold the power
Let your life be in the sunshine
Not the darkness of your sorrow
You may see your all today
When you know it'll come tomorrow
Tough to be, but life ain't over
Just because your man is gone
Girl, love yourself and love to love
'Cause without him your life goes on
Without him your life goes on
Without him your life goes on
'Cause a rose is still a rose
Baby, girl, you're still a flower
He can't lead you and then take you
Make you and then break you
Baby, girl, you hold the power
See the rose is still a rose
Baby, girl, you're still a flower

I loved the deep introspection......we get caught up in the "what ifs" and forget to just be who we are deep inside.

I'm sure it's good to be getting back into the groove.

I used to say yellow, but now I am partial to white and then I see a coral one and go wow...
Color and me, its a complicated affair
