To You From The Poetess

This time, a year ago, dark days were upon my doorstep. It was my first Christmas without my late husband, and I wanted t.o crawl into bed t.o not wake up until New Year's had passed. I spent that week in a rented Air B'nB house because I couldn't bear the holidays within our old home. Too many memories t.o haunt me, too many laughs that would never occur again, too many promises of tomorrow that would never come t.o be. Yes, it was a dark time in my life...

"Life happens and it goes on the next day"
~Poetess

People always ask me how I am doing now. The reality is that the current -pandemic has given me a grace period t.o grieve and t.o find myself again. It has taken the burden off of me t.o be in social structures that would be uncomfortable. It has allowed time t.o pass and t.o heal my heart. It has given m.e time t.o write and create, t.o feel and emote. Therefore I have found the virus has graced m/e with lots of gifts, even through the challenges

I have learned many lessons and some came with a price, like losing my friend Adam t.o COVID. It has taught m.e that no matter how many tools we have in our arsenal, we are all human and have t.o allow the human processes t.o happen. And lastly, it has taught me great -patience and resolve t,o live each day t.o my fullest.

One of the tools death has given m,e, is the ability t.o stop people from being self absorbed, if only for a second. When someone starts bitching about the shut downs, or the election, or their family member drama...I tell them I will be spending my holiday alone because I am widowed, and for a minute, they forget t.o worry about the small stuff and focus on their gratitude for what they have.

If you are alone this Christmas, know that I se.nd you a big virtual hug and heartfelt sentiment that you are able t,o find the joys and gifts you can in your solitude. In the end, tomorrow will come whether we want it t.o or not, so you may as well enjoy what you can of this day. May you have many more days to be grateful...

Happy Christmas
John Lennon

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fears
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
The rich and the poor ones
The war is so long
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fights
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fears
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
(And a happy New Year)
Ooh, oh
(Let's hope it's a good one)
It's a good, it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun

I was due to spend boxing day with my nieces. Unfortunately we have a new
super easy to spread variant of Covid in the south east of the UK now. So we've
been told no mixing between households, so thats stuffed that idea. Oh well
better safe than sorry.

Sorry for your loss. You are right we should always be thankful for what we
have, rather than what we don't have. Thank you for the hug & please know I am sending you warm thoughts & a big hug from the UK.

I don't think you get over it, In my opinion, we learn to cope.
All traumas change us as people somewhat. Best wishes to you too xx
