Today being "just good enough" seems to be the rule. Being a lesbian, I was usually able to stay out of the girls and their pettiness routines.

II once picked up a book in a retro shop that was all about how to create retro-50s style hair-dos. As a man, I had NO IDEA how complicated it was, and how much time, effort and skill went into some of them. I also once stuck up a conversation with a professional harp (harmonica) player and asked him about the playing style of another harp master. He explained what that other person was doing, using language of the trade that was about ten miles over my head. Point is, whatever you choose to do, if you strive to be the best, you've got to know the vocabulary and put in the time. If you're looking for instant gratification, well, look someplace else (like in that drawer in your nightstand).
