Prepping sounds an excellent idea in your circumstances. As do all those hugs.

Given the distance I live from central London, my emergency supplies will be thoroughly cooked in a nanosecond, as would I. I remember the 'hide under the desk' drill from primary school in the 60s. Even aged 8 or 9 it seemed unlikely to succeed.

If we got the 15 minute warning, I'd go for the alcohol induced blackout. Waking up with a blinding headache to hear "Sorry someone set the sirens off by mistake" would be the icing on the cake.

I think I'm an (ill prepared ) optimist at heart. With a nice bottle of red wine open and ready for any eventuality.

Nothing you are talking about will help if there is a nuclear war. Nothing. It is the height of insanity to think you could survive world war 3. If that is not your worry, that I have no idea what you are so alarmed about.

I know, living in hurricane country, that being prepared is essential.

I have had a fully stocked larder for years. But it is time to supplement with water and cooking supplies/ I might add that having bleach or those specific tabs to make water safe is a good item to have on hand.

Hmm, you had to throw in the disclaimer of a blackout that might be alcohol induced

Interesting that no one has commented on being a member of the "Ground Zero Club." I think it may have started back in the late seventies. Whatever was going on in global politics at the time, had stirred interest in the scenario of a nuclear world war. Being a member of the 'club' meant when the nuclear bombs started flying, one would rush towards "ground zero," the spot where the closet bomb was going to hit. I'm old enough now to be a lifetime member...because I certainly don't want to be here when the dust settles!
To all...have a nice day!
