I have never used one. But remember safety first. You mentioned "hot" and "safety" was my first reaction. How hot? You see what I mean.

If you are going to use it hot I would recommend that it be placed in hot water and if you are thinking cold maybe in a bucket with ice or in the refrigerator but not the freezer or you are going to be like the kid who stuck their tongue to a metal post in the winter time

I'm also interested in your comments both good and bad.
I have never had the pleasure of administering one, but would advise that unless use to internal temperature play to start at room temperature and adjust in incrementally or attach to collar unless buckle in front if alone. Just my safety thoughts.

I believe room temperature would be the safest way to begin with, and then proceede or not, change that or not, in accordance to one's exploring mind.
Fixing it though to a nice sturdy collar is the image I often have in mind when thinking of it...

I think you might send the customs authorities one of the photos pac ( or others ) have posted of the anal hook in use. That ought to give them a pretty good idea of its purpose.
That might even make one of them want to hand deliver it to your door.  "Ma'am, we just need to be sure you ordered the right size before we can release this to you."  Customer service is very important.

Even in the US the customs people can be a pain in the ass. I get so much stuff from Shenzhen. The customs people open the packages most of the time, and put me a note inside saying my package has been inspected. It's easy to see that they were opened after shipment and they put a us customs stamp on my package.
Try putting the hook in hot water and testing the temp in your pussy. I think you'll find 38.4 or 39 degrees C to be acceptable. Since you're at 37C. 39 should feel like a hot poker without causing any discomfort.
Stainless steel holds heat since it has poor thermal conductive properties, but since the mass of that hook is small so it won't feel hot long., but just a few degrees over body temp will be noticeable for a couple of minutes. Enjoy.

I've also been curious about the hook. I'm sorry you're experiencing delays due to customs. I hope it makes its way to your door soon. I have seen so many photographs of the hook displayed in different ways (tied to the hair, clipped to a collar). I hope you enjoy it.

I would recommend to start with hand warm for sure, and to not get to overambitious with tieing it to anything right away. It's not something for everyone and you want to be sure you can enjoy or at least tolerate the feeling before going further. For more elaborate bondage style applications I strongly recommend to not do it alone but with someone you really trust. Never had or used on. If I did get one, I would try it on myself first at various temps to gauge how it feels before use. Have seen them used on may occasions. But as one commenter said, don't let someone use it on you unless someone is with you.

I smiled when you talked about demonstrating its use to customs. Hell, you just might be paving the way for another curious soul to obtain one of their own.
I've not tried the hook but I do know a Mistress that's fond of making her sub wear
a butt plug when she goes out. In my mind it would feel the same as the plug it's the hook that would be the challenge.

Never even thought about temperature. Just use it at room temp, which feels cool on insertion. Not used a lot but effective when it is used....

The reason to mention the temperature is seeing someone mentioned that a few days ago here in some comments. I was curious to know what would be the difference, and if there is any at all compared to regular room temp. I used to have a mistress that liked to use one. It really doesn't give you pain in normal use, and I actually enjoyed the insersion when it was cold. That anal hook is more of bondage/sensory item. The cold steel ball inserted in the anus with a leather strap or rope attached to your collar. A lot of control for the dominant and a lot of pleasure or pain sensation for the submissive.
Hopefully you will get to experience soon...never heard of Customs wanting to know the value and purpose of an items, especially for something that has only on real purpose.

My own understanding and feeling about anal hook is closest to your description. It makes me feel vulnerable, under control, and comfortable when I imagine being hooked the same way as you put it.
I think it is not necessary to cause any serious or any at all hurt or pain if done in a safe and consensual way with mutual trust.
With regards to Customs, it is a bit strange to me as well, this is not the first toy to be purchased this way and they have all been delivered in due time.
