Well being English, & allegedly a native English speaker
I suppose I'll have a go.

As you are probably aware the more common phrase is
'Hidden Depths' meaning someone who is more intellectual,
intelligent, or just has more about them, than you thought.
'Hidden Shallows' I believe I've heard before & is a bastardisation
of the proper phrase 'Hidden Depths.' You might use it if someone turned
out to be less intelligent, or have less about them than you originally thought.

I think he was meaning to be complimentary. I believe he was saying you
cause him to have base/dirty thoughts, however he's hardly hiding that fact.
I feel you have to be very careful with compliments of this nature, because
they are only a compliment if the recipient wants to hear it.

Dave, good morning, and many thanks for reading and taking the time to clarify a confusing phrase.
I haven't taken it as a compliment, though not knowing this precisely what could have meant, it just didn't feel right when I read it and it sounded like a poor and pathetic attempt to correct the first statement about his cock getting hard on any woman.
Now when I read your explanation, I know I was correct.
Maybe there are no significant hidden depths within my being, yet I still don't see it as a goal to be one of many to make his, nor anyone's cock hard.
