It was not your fault. IN face, you gave him some love with the cuddle, food & water. You let him out so normal body function could be addressed. Poison perhaps, one of the animal flues or other things like Parvo may more likely been the issue and there was nothing you could have done, other than taking him to the vet right off. He could have had other congenital problems.

If he was poisoned, DD, than we live in much more cruel world than I thought. What kind of person could do that to this innocent soul... thank you for your kind words, DD.

No it was not your fault. You did what you could and made his last days far better than they might have been.

ExNameForUse replies on 2/10/2023 11:56 am:
Thank you, I am trying to think that way myself and that at least he felt some love even if just for a short time.

NO it was not your fault beautiful lady. YOU gave him something in the short time that he was with you that he appreciated more than you know. You cared for him, give him food and drink, things that he had been needing in his short life. No matter the reason he died, he was shown love until he passed.

I find that it is a shame that so many dogs and cats end up on the street where they are missing love.

ExNameForUse replies on 2/10/2023 12:05 pm:
Sad truth is that so many animals are actually abandoned by their "owners"... me and my neighbors feed them, play with them and in winter let them sleep and spend time in the hallway of the house... this puppy simply stayed in front of my door and that's when I made him a bed of my old rug, and when home let him in to be with me inside. I hope he felt some comfort in the end.

This just tears my heart out ... My eyes are moist. I saw a sign in a thrift store that read "Heaven is where all the cats and dogs you've ever owned await for you". You'll see your puppy again one day.

I am at a loss for words - I feel for you and the puppy. He could not have found a better, or more loving, person to spend his last days with. Do not blame yourself for anything. As my colleague noted, he's waiting for you.

It is amazing how in such a short time we have adopted each other... I really hope he is in a better place now where we shall meet one day I hope... thank you for your very kind words, Plz.

the problem with dogs is their lives are so short. They always break our hearts. Sorry for your loss.

We have spent not so much time together but it was obvious we connected in some tender way... thank you for your kindness.

It's sad. You both shared love and affection.
It's something hard to find .
God bless you for being kind to him.

Sorry to hear, sadly we can't save them all. The original owners are the ones at fault.

ExNameForUse replies on 2/10/2023 12:13 pm:
I have heard today where he came from and how he was treated... broke my heart really... I hope he felt loved a bit at least in the end... thank you, Rondiri.

It wasn't your fault at all. You gave him a very good life, short but sweet. What matters is that you tried.

ExNameForUse replies on 2/11/2023 6:16 am:
Thank you, Dreamy. It is how I am trying to cope with this too... still makes me sad he is not there wait when I am back from work.

I can inmaging, that you are feeling somehow guilty.
When it was 'in the stars' to happen, it will happen, no matter what you did or did not do., at least that is what i think of in such situations.

i dont think you are at fault.
You gave him a warm home, food and security.
Sorry for your loss.

You never know, what kind of deseases (street?) dogs have, untill you go to the vet.......

ExNameForUse replies on 2/11/2023 12:57 pm:
Then my fault is not taking him to the vet... I really thought I was doing the right thing with giving him the warm shelter, food and you know... being kind and caring.

I think you did a very kind thng bringing him amd caring for him!

You are right! It is good to let a dog out during the day...

ExNameForUse replies on 2/12/2023 10:36 am:
Thank you, Jenny for being kind. Sending one big hug back to you... I really thought and believed I was doing the right thing rather than keeping him locked for nearly 12 hours...

Yes, maybe?
You will never know that!
Maybe he was already really very ill...
You gave him love and care.

That is a beautifull thing to do, to a stray dog.. let him in, from the cold/wet...
Dont beat yourself up, over something, you really will never know!

Althought i can inmaging that you feel bad about it... ( i would too)
It is a feeling of loss, i guess..?
Sometimes we do things in life, that we will regret or feel bad about, later on

But we did that thing, with the best intentions, and knowledge, at least that is worth something, dont you think?
I send you cuddles, a hug, if you want them,

ExNameForUse replies on 2/15/2023 4:46 am:
I believe that doing things with best possible intentions and knowledge is what counts in the end, I agree with you... even though the outcome is not always as we would want it to be

He was not so pretty at first glance, yet extremely gentle and kind nature and when he looks at you it would literally melt your heart.
