Hopefully, I shall find a solution and spend a few days by the Sea this Summer and not be forced to pay double the price

Hi Ex, I was always about the profit, it's just that nowadays vendors are more blatant about higher cost vs less hospitality. If you go the AirB&B route, check the reviews. If I thought about by the weirdo aspect everywhere I go, I wouldn't go anywhere. Not that they won't exist, but reviews will give you a better idea of what is and what may not. Ultimately, if you really want the vacation, you will have to decide whether to pay a lot or trust the AirB&B reviews. I mean, the alternative is just not going, but that would be sad. If you go for the AirB&B, I always avoid sharing units, meaning a house or apartment where the rental is by the room, but the residence is shared with people I do not know. Some people are perfectly fine with this and that's fair, but that really creeps me out. I rather rent the unit alone. Hope you can get rental and vacation going sweetie. Good luck!

Now just where have you been young lady!! I was wondering if something had happened to you or if you'd fallen ill, etc. Glad you're OK and planning some vacation time this coming summer. I must admit I'm a little naïve about singles having to pay more than couples. Are you talking about for the same amount of space ... a room/villa etc.? I guess I've never had to give it much thought. The advice on checking the reviews on Airbnb locations is good advice. Please also consider the concept of 'Analysis to paralysis'. Spending a lot of time worrying about all the bad things that can happen will give you ulcers. We don't want that do we? Where were you planning on going to be by the sea/ocean? How about a cruise - Ever consider one of those? Make Women Female Again

Travel agents still exist in this day and age?

I stopped taking cruises for that reason built for two and priced that way If you ever want a travel partner look me up

I've not experienced that with travel since I travel with my good friend. Where I see it the most is cell service. If there's at least 2 people it cuts your rate in half!

I lived near the ocean in California and I am six block from Lake Michigan (which is large enough to look like ocean (you can't see over the horizon. I like going to the water; but I like going to the desert or mountains too. Each have their plus and minus. Of course how the experience ones is affected by the time of year. I understand the frustration about traveling alone. One thin you can do, is book a night at a hotel or such for the first and last night of a trip. When you get there, research and ind place you like. Staying the last night near you airport, train station or whatever departure mode gives some peace of mind. Another consideration, is going to a place where you know someone and use them as a information resource. "One Big Sky Covers Us All Equally"

Ex, In the spirit of competition, you would think that some outfits would cater to singles and offer lower pricing. Perhaps staying during what is considered an off-season. The advantages are less crowded, more relaxing and just maybe the luck of meeting a fun, like-minded traveler. There is always negotiation. Hotels, and motels, make no money on empty rooms. However, safety is never guaranteed.

Ex Sadly, that is my experience too! Everyone assumes people travel in pairs! Or pay an exorbitant amount! I hope you find something though A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. George Bernard Shaw Jenny

Norwegian Cruise Lines has a program for solo travelers which permits you to book a single-person cabin and not have to pay double. It has apparently been successful, as they are expanding it. Plus, I believe that their single-cabin area has its own restaurants and lounges, thereby giving you the opportunity to connect with others. NCL may not be a luxury cruise line, but cruising is still the most cost-effective vacation you can find. Plus, the industry is very competitive, so if you have flexibility, there are bargains to be found.

So many organizations and groups are out to gouge the singles. They do it because people pay. I say F them. Howling at the moon and mal ad osteo.

Ex, I hear you on that one. I have the same problem. Someone said it's always been about profit & that may well be true. I wonder however if in the past there were less singles seeking rooms or whatever. So if the odd single came along they let it go. I guess they would argue if the room is worth a certain amount to a couple, if the halve the price of the room for a single, they are losing money. That's no comfort to you or me though. Hope you find something.

Yes, Europe became very expensive nowadays. Croatia, Slovenia too as their living standard increases and joined to the Euro-area. Italy allways was expensive for us, central europeans. I think you shall see Montenegro which looks cheaper but as beautiful as Slovenia and Croatia as a blog writer described it here in Hungary. "It seems that hotels and private property owners took the recipe and started pricing their accommodation the same way... and I just think that is not fair" Yes, true, it is not fair with us, singles. DRMGIRL, here in Europe a hotel/AIRBNB room's standard price applies if 2 person occupies it. Singles are disadvantaged, they get a higher price occupying the same room. If someone rents an apartment for longer term like some months, this does not applies, so, it had been better to live on these places for long but most people is bound to their home environment by work, family, etc. Off-season travel is a good idea, but the prices are very high, see what I wrote above why. A gentleman mentioned the competition: the competition puts prices up and not down in this case. These are popular destinations, not deserted places. Exname, are you came to europe from the U.S.? Americans are paranoic despite of Europe is securer than their own country. And worse, U.S. citizens are promoting this paranoia overseas... while Europe is relatively safe... Ofcourse the devil does not sleeps..., I am not insensitive to rightful worries but sensitive to paranoia promotion. Norvegia as well as all the Scandinavian countries are extremely expensive, prices are horroristic. So, start to save years before traveling there. "So many organizations and groups are out to gouge the singles. They do it because people pay." Where are you writing from? Not here, that's sure!
