Ex

This too is true and beautiful!

Jenny, money can't buy happiness... maybe it brings you some temporary joy, but in the long run... I am not sure misery can be erased by money and wealth.

Money may help in a comfortable life style but does not guarantee true happiness/richness in friendships and the joy of one's surrounding. Great posting for the none material people.

I am gloriously rich
First thing in the morning I get up, go to a mirror and smile because I have a new day! I am rich because I have a roof over my head, food to eat, owe no one
and I can smile and do often

I can relate to your feelings, Ex. My living space is designed around simple luxuries, such as antique lamps, tables, and an old desk. These items have a unique charm that adds character to my space. The lamps cast a warm, comforting light, the tables are sturdy and functional, and the old desk has a timeless beauty that inspires me.

I feel incredibly rich because I am able to appreciate the simple things in life. I can immerse myself in a good book and lose myself in its story. I have the freedom to choose what I want to do with my time, whether it's pursuing a hobby or spending time with loved ones. And when I wake up in the morning to a gorgeous sunrise, I am filled with a sense of wonder and gratitude.

These small joys give me a sense of happiness and contentment that money can't buy. They remind me that life is about appreciating the beauty around us and finding joy in the simple moments.

Great Topic,
xx~M

I am no "rich" financially. And frankly, as long as I have enough o have a roof over my head, decent food to eat, clean cloths & basic health that is just fine. But, I am rich with good memories (I tend to not dwell on the negative things which happened to me), rich with friends around the world and of course locally, I think I am reasonably sane and not a problems to others, I am not sedentary at this point in my life (and hope to never be) so I have my health. Having nearly died with some health issues, which I obviously survived, my life is rich. i am alone these days, but hardly ever feel lonely. I have had a charmed life.

ExNameForUse replies on 3/3/2024 8:44 am:
It is so often that we forget that being healthy is maybe the greatest luxury we can own.
Whenever I take that annual health exam and see all the results which are so far all in preferred references, I realize that ALL is good.
I am healthy. I have work that provides me enough to pay for the roof above my head, for the food on my table, for a decent living... and back at the beginning - if I wasn't healthy, I couldn't go to work... so, yes... we possess what is the most important.
I live alone, too DD. And I find that is one my my luxaries as well. My peace.

still alive, still with that tiny spark for life and joy.

A 'tiny' spark for life and joy? Stop it!! You have a huge spark for life and joy ... Perhaps you just have a hard time admitting it to yourself. Your words remind me of a caterpillar that's turned into a beautiful butterfly. You've shed your old possessions, some friends and portions of your life to get to where you are today - Totally free to be YOU.

When I scrolled down the meme of The Real Luxuries, I was expecting to get to one of the best luxuries of all .... Of course that would be 'orgasms'. Perhaps that is located in Appendix A?

Make Women Female Again

ExNameForUse replies on 3/3/2024 8:27 am:
I won't deny that a nice orgasm is always welcome. But I have to be honest - in my book, sex is a bit overrated. I understand the time when it is all about it, but then... there comes the time when other things matter a little more. Not only because we don't enjoy sex, hence a nice orgasm, but simply at some point, for various reasons, we won't be able to perform it anymore, sometimes not even with a little extra help. And then what?
I know some can't seem to comprehend that not all that matters is between men's/women's thighs... it is almost as if it is what defines them... but I prefer other luxuries.

Very well said.. If only more folks would realize what true luxuries were and stop the greed, the world would be a much better place! I find that the simple life is the best.. You did a great job of encapsulating what those luxuries are with this posting!! Again well said!

ExNameForUse replies on 3/3/2024 8:17 am:
Never understand greed. Where does it come from? I have a colleague who seems to suffer from it, constantly buying stuff... everything... clothes, shoes, food, cosmetics... and she is aware of that consumerism, but she says it is because there was a time when she couldn't afford anything of that, and now she just can't stop doing it... maybe it is fear of poverty... don't know really... I have been through the very same period in my life, but it has taught me of how not important all those stuff are and how easily we can live without so many things... what matters is not materialistic...

materialism is narcissism you can’t take it w you when you die your not thinking of things at the end your thinking of people places you loved
yes you are very rich Ex
true happiness only comes from with in
not what you have surrounding you

When my son was in the "brand phase" and everything he wore had to be branded, I tried to put it a bit differently and asked him how about being a brand, not wearing a brand... like working on what's in you, not on what's on you... because all that stuff is just that - stuff... it will be worn out sooner or later and thrown away so why be bothered with it... we came with nothing and we will leave the same way...

I watch those remodel shows on TV and think...."oh, I'd love that kitchen!"......then I come to my senses and realize I have so much more than most.

ExNameForUse replies on 3/3/2024 8:08 am:
I am not skilled in remodeling, but there is an old chair in my basement I may try this summer to bring to life... I saw Scribe doing things with my top kitchen cabinets, as he turned them from ugly dark green to lovely vintage white, and there was a lot of work but the outcome is superb... so something I look forward to trying this year... learning new things is always good

There is nothing ideal, sometimes I wish I could afford this or that, but in the end, I get what I want... maybe wait a little longer to save some pennies, and calculate what are priorities but it only adds value to those things I wanted...

Love your take on life and luxury! I've often said the richness of life is having learned to appreciate things that don't cost you money. Like a lot of the things you mentions and listed, and things like the sweet smell of honeysuckle in bloom along a country road I'm on with the windows down, the way the world smell just after a heavy rain, the laughter of small children playing, the scent of the beach most anywhere in the world and the feel of the soft sand as I walk init at the beach, Seeing and hearing birds of prey (Falcons, Hawks, Owls, and Eagles, that are seldom seen because they're so stealthy and somewhat elusive 'loners' in the wild and watching them on the hunt, nature in general in all it's splendor, all around us, and so much more. Having the TIME AND WHERE WITH ALL to take it all in, is, of course HUGE, as well.
And you're right, whether it's clothing or some furniture, area rugs, painting/works of art, the quality shine through regardless of age compared to SO MANY things that are sold today. With age and personal experiences and the freedom to choose, we are supposed to gain wisdom, but, unfortunately, nor everyone does, or as a friend of mine's dad use to tell us, "It takes some folks LONGER to mature than others, but they will eventually get there. And still, others will always remain clueless..."
Well stated and well written, Ex! Thanks for sharing!

My apartment is literally in a huge park where you can see and hear all the above-mentioned... at first, when I moved in here, coming from a busy part of the city with a lot of noise, traffic, people... this was like moving to the countryside... it took me some time to adjust to hearing silence in some parts of the day... now I think it is one of the luxuries as well I am rewarded with and can enjoy every day

Great writing, Ex.
The greatest things in life are free.
The freedom to choose.

When i think, i want something, i always consider its use..
When i cant afford it, it was not ment for me, anyway.
Or when it is already sold out, = the same.

I heard the blackbird sing its evening song, this day, that made me soo happy, that makes me feel rich.
Not interested in Stufff, for having stuff, the ikea style, as an example.

I like, just like you, vintage things, furniture, clothes, and i am handy with the sewing machine, so i can fix it, to my taste.
That makes me feel extremely rich...

ExNameForUse replies on 3/4/2024 9:13 am:
Some bits of my furniture are IKEA-like, and some bits are as someone once said cottage style... and they both get along well...

I agree with you about the real luxuries.
I have far more money than I've ever had before, but I don't consider
myself rich. If I want another camera, computer or what ever I buy
something second hand.

The freedom to chose what you do, how you live & spend your time,
is one of the greatest luxuries. I love to walk through the park & all the
dogs come up to me to say hello. The squirrles scampering up the trees
to keep out of the reach of the dogs. The Red Kites (bird) swirling magesticly
overhead. Or coming back from my walk past the river, lake & flood defence
area, watching all the Swans, Ducks & Geese.

I once heard a talk by a rich man. He said 'things' are nice to have, but they
won't make you happy. If you are not happy without them, you won't be happy
with them.

I heard another rich man say he had asked his daughter what she want for her
birthday. She replied; 'I want you to give up smoking.'
He said; 'Why couldn't she ask for something easy, like a Porche!'
She clearly wasn't interested in 'things'. But she got her birthday present.

ExNameForUse replies on 3/4/2024 9:17 am:
Dave, thanks for stopping and sharing some of your thoughts with us.
I do believe that my personal freedom is the most valuable asset I possess and worked hard to have it.... it is great to be able to afford some little things, but then again, as Rosa said, maybe they are not meant for me if I can't have them... all valuable things are an inside job.

Ex,
i am not againtst Ikea, perse, some of their furniture is great, but it is bit wihout fantasy, to me, that is
i like to collect all kind of furniture styles, and put that together, they match too,

Being rich, to me, is not in stuff, things, belongings, it is in what kind of a person yo. i are....

ExNameForUse replies on 3/5/2024 9:40 am:
You are spot on, it is exactly what I like... my home is mixture of various styles, and when chosen carefully, they are so compatible... but I dont look for expensive, anything... furniture, clothes, whatever... only what I like and feel can fit into my personal world.
I think we like the same 😊
