Just another tidbit about Az....

Were you lucky enough to be driving on Hwy 87 from Payson, Az to Scottsdale, Az today?? If so, you saw a wonderful spectacle...

The 63rd ride of the Navajo County Sheriff's Posse Hashknife Pony Express. The 200- mile route typically takes place every February, but was moved to April this year because of the pandemic...

The Pony Express journey begins at the Holbrook, Az post office. And finishes in Scottsdale, Az.. Where approximately 30 riders take part, working as a coordinated team as they carry and hand mail from section to section.

They trot and gallop over the route as safety dictates, covering each mile in 7 to 10 minutes. Each rider goes a mile then hands off to the next rider. To expedite the trip and keep riders and horses stress free...

Navajo County Sheriffs Office provides security, medical assistance and dispatching for emergencies. There is also a specialized mail crew, a cooking crew and multiple vehicles that drive in front of, and behind the riders, for additional safety as the riders are on the shoulders of the highway...

Not to mention there is also a team for the horses in case they have problems...

The objective of this is to get the original postmark on your letter... Special mail barrels are placed outside these specific post offices for you to use... Of course I have one! And I love how authentic it looks...

Isn't it great when history is still alive???

This is the sort of history I love reading about!

Thank you for sharing

Dear Pac, I just wrote in another place a recollection of a TV show concerning Casey Jones, a train engineer from way back when, and now I see your post about about the Pony Express, also a TV show from way back in early days of Australian television. Both were extremely interesting shows and kept a young NoNonsense dominant well entertained.

It has to have a meaning, 2 shows of that era being brought back to my memory in one day.

Mmmm.. Not sure what the meaning is? But isn’t it wonderful when our brains make us think of the “why’s”? Thanks for sharing your thoughts...

I have a friend who did that ride many years ago. He was also in several Western movies.
