Desert dangers...

Apparently, there is a reason pac has no windshield wiper fluid...

As the mechanic told her something had eaten the wires t o the wiper container, and for good measure chewed the wire t o one of my fog lights!

WTF? Another frustration of desert living. Right now my car is parked under a light at night, with the hood open in a attempt t o keep critters from hiding in a dark and warm environment...

If anyone has any other suggestions? pac would appreciate hearing them...

I'm guessing it's rodents of some kind. Not sure if you may have an infestation issue. There's cage type trap but that's only good for one rodent at time.
Bucket trap, There are a couple of other more natural ways as well:

Good luck

Is there some type of non toxic spray that you could spray on the entire engine. I know cats don't like that orange scent so I always used it on my wooden stairway inside the house.

pac369 replies on 11/6/2021 3:39 pm:
I am not sure drmgirl..

There are so many out door critters it's hard to know what to use..
Thanks for the suggestion.

wow that suKs $200 isn’t so bad thou hurts...l have a friend who had a squirrel eat her electric system last summer totaled $17k in damages TG it was under warranty she traded it in for new one!
I don’t think keeping hood up is wise makes it easier for them to get in invest in a cheap building for garage w walls & door to keep out the varmits or spread some kind of animal repellent all around your house & car to keep them away make sure it won’t harm any of your pets if you have any!

Spreading anything outside is not really possible due to pets, and birds and rabbits running around...

A guy kept his truck open when critters were present. He said it kept the engine from staying warm... I don't know..
I am grasping for straws. And will look into everyone's ideas..

Thanks for sharing yours..

I had something similar with my truck when I went on a business trip for a week. Squirrels made a home on the engine. Opened the hood and all the padding on the interior of the hood had been torn away and the engine was covered with snail shells. Who knew squirrels ate snails! Luckily they stayed away from the wires. Sorry you had expensive damage. My main issue now is I drive so little, the battery keeps dying.

Ohh I wish I had the problem Iso...

In the last 6 months I have seen 1 squirrel on the property trying to get into my bird feeder. Last year when I was in Northern Az, squirrels were everywhere, they made no secret when they were around... I still think it's mice...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts though..

Put a black or rat snake in there to keep itself warm and you can leave the hood shut. No critters, no damage, just a fat, otherwise harmless, black snake. (just don't get your black snake from Australia)

pac369 replies on 11/6/2021 10:39 pm:
Well.. I realize I need to shut the hood or the interior light will not shut off and the battery will drain.

But the snake is not a option. Thanks anyway…
