Smack down at the Oscar's... pac enjoys the Academy Awards. Where the films and actors are embraced and celebrated. Even with all the woman trying t o out do each other! Last night became quite interesting though. As she thought a incident was staged... Chris Rock the comedian came on stage t o present a award. Will Smith and his bald wife Jada, who suffers from alopecia, were front and center t o be called out by Rock. Who says, "Jada I love you, G.I. Jane 2, can't wait t o see it." Needless t o say the joke wasn't taken well by most of the crowd. As the camera focuses on Will and Jada, we see her not smiling. And Will trying not t o chuckle. Will get's up from his chair and walks up t o the stage. With his hand opened up he hauls off and smacks Rock up side his head. Effecting Rock's balance. Once Will returns t o his seat you can see him mouthing the words "Keep my wife's name out of your fucking mouth" Everything and everyone went silent for seconds. Then Rock continued his presentation. About 40 minutes after this Will accepts his best actor award for "King Richard". He does attempt t o apologize for his actions. At one point saying "Love makes you do crazy things!" The police are aware of the situation. And Rock is not pressing charges at this time. Good for Will, he was bold to go up and defend his wife's dignity in front of the whole world. I don't think it was staged, his tears proved that. Love does make you do crazy things, as does the bond in this lifestyle. Seems he may be the sub and she the Domme from the second picture. Dignified, elegant, composed woman; passionate man defending his queen. Male manilness is a declining breed in this day and age.

Don't care about celebrities congratulating themselves on how well they pretend to be other people but it was unavoidable on FB to know what happened. Seems staged to me, though. Perfect camera angle, no security presence, staying for the rest of the pomp & circumstance while virtue signaling his nobility on the world stage against what one can only assume was a weaker man. Don't know that for sure but maybe Mr. Smith did... So the question in my mind is this, would he have done the same if it were Terry Crews who'd made the joke? Or Dwayne Johnson? Or even Samuel L. Jackson? Who knows...

Chris Rock isn't Don Rickles. Some comedians could do the same thing, and it's funny. Might be more backstory to it also. But can't blame Will for defending his wife. A comedian HAS to know his audience and what he can and can not joke about.

Over here in the UK, I've only seen brief clips on the news. Will slapping him, seated mouthing those words you mentioned & his apology. Seems to me the wrong man did the apologising! I think Will should have added to the end of his apology. "And when you're a smart mouthed comic, sometimes you should expect to get your lights punched out." Though I don't suppose that would have made it much of an apology.

Sam Jackson may have tried to console him but I can almost guarantee it'd be a whole lot different if it'd had been himself Mr. Smith would've attempted to slap!

More recently, however, Rock has used Pinkett Smith as a punchline before at the 2016 Academy Awards. “What happened this year? What happened? People went mad. Spike got mad. Sharpton got mad. Jada went mad. And Will went mad. “Everybody went mad, you know. It’s quite like, Jada got mad? Jada says she’s not coming. Protesting. I’m like, ‘Isn’t she on a TV show?’ Jada’s gonna boycott the Oscars? Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna's panties. I wasn’t invited."

I would think that a good many of the actors that were the brunt of many of the "Jokes" in the past would have been seriously tempted to do what Will did, can't blame him for defending his bride

Will Smith has become a uppity full of himself self righteous Ahole who needs a comeuppance! I thought the 3 hosts did a good job especially Amy Shummer! I hated the tribute to the dead as they focused more on the stupid choir & interrupted for lvan Riteman & Betty White but not any others who were just as big! Awards shows have become avenues for the clueless privileged Narcissistic ultra rich...l don’t give a fuk bout their opinions political affiliations either they need to keep their mouths shut on those topics!

There is a backstory here. His wife either had a short affair, or possibly a multi-year affair, with a young rapper. Some claim they have an open marriage. Possibly other rumors. On top of this, several years back Chris Rock took a little dig at his wife, as comedians do. So that may also have been in play. (First post in this, my second time at b.com. Basic membership.)
