Quality of life... Count your blessings...

A week ago a 38 year old woman and mother of three from SC went for a walk. Where she was attacked by three dogs...

The attack was so vicious as she lay in a ditch. A bystander ran and got his gun. Which he fired in the air so the dogs would leave her alone...

She was airlifted t o the hospital with horrific injuries. Both of her arms at the shoulder have already been amputated. Her colon has been removed. Her esophagus may have to be removed. And now the Doctors are monitoring one of her legs that might have to be amputated because of all the dead tissue on it...

Unfortunately, attacks on other dogs and many have become increasingly familiar...

These particular dogs have been confiscated from the owner. Who has been charged and did appear in court. Of course the family wants justice...

The woman who was attacked has been heavily sedated. The family says she has woke for periods of time. But she is not herself...

No shit! Could you live this way? With no arms, a bag attached t o you so you can use the bathroom. Where you might never speak in a normal voice or have a nice meal again. Where you still might lose a leg on top of everything else. Knowing you will need 24/7 care now the rest of your life...

Our lives can change in the blink of a eye. Appreciate your good health even with the nuisance aches and pains. pac knows she does as she's recovering from surgery!

My niece stepped on a land mine, lost a leg and one arm, she looks good from one side but the other is all scars and artificial leg and arm. She says life can change in a blink of an eye but when one door closes another always opens.
In the case of the dog attack that is why I always carry concealed, even in my front yard.

Wow j!
What a amazing attitude your niece has.
And certainly can understand about carrying
the concealed weapon.
Thanks for sharing...

It's brutal what can happen so quickly and quite a shame.
Just what kind of justice can come from something like this.
Hopefully the animal owner has some form of insurance, but would it cover not only the expenses, but the lifetime extended care needed?
And what kind of treatment and training have the dogs received, to be so vicious to attack a person like that.

pac369 replies on 3/29/2022 9:20 am:
Good points TM!
Of course a go fund me account has been
set up. The last I read over $40,000 has been received so far.
But you are probably talking hundreds of thousands of dollars for
her future care.
And agreed... What would turn those dogs into attack dogs?

As a kid, I lived next door to dogs that were barely controllable by their owners.
Was fortunate they never jumped the fence. I love dogs, but so many owners just either don't know how to train and control their dogs, or they train them to be vicious for the fun of it. It saddens me when I read about people, especially children, that get attacked, maimed or killed by dogs. I feel bad for this woman. The dogs should be put down, and the guy should be put away in a cage for life, though he'll probably get a slap on the wrist.

pac369 replies on 3/29/2022 4:47 pm:
Can understand that Ron!
If you have a animal it is your responsibility to train
it for sure. Not let it just roam wild.
Like you my heart goes out to this woman and her long road ahead.
I do think the dogs will be put down. As far as the owner goes. Who knows?

Horrible. I suspect that pit bulls were involved. I know some people defend them, but I think the breed should be outlawed.

My wee dog and I were attacked a few years ago by two six-foot long Great Dane "puppies." My dog was hurt, but not too badly. I was not hurt, but it left me shaken with PTSD for several months.
It taught me a few important lessons - one was about situational awareness. The other had to do with what happens when something triggers a massive adrenalin surge - all logic and self-control goes out the window except the instinct to fight for yourself and to protect what's yours.
What I mean by that is that if I'd been carrying, I'd have emptied my gun into those dogs, and probably anyone who tried to stop me.
It explains why law enforcement and the military go through extensive training, so that, when the adrenalin kicks in, they react as they have been trained to react without hesitation.

pac369 replies on 3/29/2022 4:54 pm:
I am not sure RB what the breed was?
It was mentioned in the articles I read...
My Mom was just bit by a family pet a chow, chow.
And she still remembers it to this day.

To be actually attacked would be traumatic for anyone! Glad you escaped relatively unharmed...
Situational awareness is extremally important in all aspects of life. But if and when I get a dog. I will carry something to protect us
both!

I did read about that, pac. When I was young a neighbor had 3 German Shepards that were her babies. For whatever reason, one day they just mauled her to death. It's all so sad but we have to remember that they are animals and no matter how domesticated can turn.

pac369 replies on 3/29/2022 4:56 pm:
How sad drmgirl!
And I imagine something that has stayed with you
the rest of your life...
Is it something of a pack mentality when they attack
like that?? It does make you wonder...

That is a tragedy. I carry police strength chemical mace just for dog attacks.

Howling at the moon and mal ad osteo.

Great idea about the mace for dog attacks...

That's terrible pac.
"Could you live this way?" No, I think I'd rather not, not both arms,
I think with those level of injuries I'd rather just check out.

We've just had a case where a couple with a baby bought a dog,
unfortunately the dog killed the baby. I love dogs, but if I had a baby,
I wouldn't be getting a dog for several years. Until the child was at the
very least past the toddler stage. I would also choose the breed carefully.

RobertBishop mentions that he thinks pitbulls should be band. Here in
the UK they are! Due to the number of attacks they have been involved in.

pac369 replies on 3/29/2022 5:05 pm:
I do agree Dave!
I don't know if I could? Would I try?
Of course... Just think it would be to hard...

I have always had cats in my life. Where issues like that don't happen...
It's funny my Mom has a female pitbull. Who is the nicest dog until another female dog is around. Then she turns into a ferocious beast.
Which is what we need to remember about dogs!

pac

That is terrible! Does the poor woman really wish to survive!

Nothing can make up for what the dog did to her!!

very sad event Pac l feel for the victims & dogs involved hope the owners go to jail lose everything for making a healthy vibrant woman into paraplegic!
unfortunately many pet owners are not responsible or properly train their animals & should rightfully be held accountable for any damage injury their pets inflict on other animals people or property!
I personally couldn’t wouldn’t want a life like that & would most likely put a bullet in my head!
it’s NOT the dogs fault it’s the owners...ALL dogs are mans best friend & loving unless abused mistreated mishandled mismanaged!
when properly trained they only go bezerk w a bitch in heat OR if a family member is in danger!

pac369 replies on 3/30/2022 7:40 am:
It really is sad bdsm!
I do agree about the owner/s being held responsible
for what the dogs did. And while I realize the dogs went into
pack mentality. Can they be rehabilitated after doing such damage to a person... Not sure about that...
