More Wildlife

Last week it was snakes in my courtyard and now I have a new visitor. I'm sure most of you are familiar with or have seen the chameleons of various colors. Well, this isn't your ordinary little chameleon, more like his much older and larger brother. I know South FL has the iguanas because I've seen them on my trips to Key West. I'm not sure what species of reptile this is but all these reptiles just find me and my courtyard fascinating.

When I lived in Fla. I was told that the small lizards are essential. As you know Fla. is known for its large Palmetto bugs. The lizards eat them . . the word is if you kill a lizard the rest will leave your property and you'll be over run with the big bugs.

Now what kind of pathetic reptile would NOT find you fascinating? Maybe a dead one? Now I did a google image search and it says that lizard is in the same family as iguanas. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agamidae

i figured it was in that family with the body shape.....thank you for the compliment

Lizards are good luck signs and thought to be guardians of the home. Know you are blessed, some of us have already figured that out...

Not fond of snakes. Every time I play royal oak
golf course in titusville there was always a gator
in the fairway . . Not to worrying I never hit the fairway
anyway.

It looks like an alligator lizard. (NOT related to alligators.) Quite harmless. We have them by our condo (in S. CA). They eat bugs and other small pesky critters including black widow spiders, centipedes, scorpions, and snails.
The smaller ones are very fast but occasionally you find an old-timer who has slowed down (like me.). Maggie and I took a video of one that I caught that was a foot long (mostly tail.) It was so tame that when we finally placed it on the ground by my feet it just remained there. I had to usher it back into the bushes. They won't really bite, if they get scared they'll open their mouths as a threat.

HerJourney21 replies on 3/1/2022 7:43 am:
yep, they pretty much just scurry off when you get too close
