Did you know that the BDSM Community has their own symbols? Symbol explinations in comments |

The first 5 icons were designed by Tanos in 1995, and used by The Slave Register The designs were meant to have a clear symbolism to their meaning, but not an obvious meaning to anyone outside the BDSM community. Most of us know the Triskelion, but do you know the meaning in the symbolism? The number 3 is the focus of the Triskele First there are 3 “legs” that meet in the center. These “legs” have 3 meanings. First you have BDSM: Bondage & Discipline, Dominance & submission and Sadism & Masochism Secondly, you have the 3 part creed of BDSM: Safe, Sane & Consensual Thirdly, you have the 3 participants of BDSM: The Dominant, the submissive & the Switch What are the Yin Yang shapes? They are meant to show how each area of BDSM, B&D, D&s and S&M are separate, but can easily crossover into one another. They appear the same but a distinctively different. What are the holes in the Yin Yang shapes? They are NOT dots. Think of the shape as a person in BDSM, the hole represents the void of something or someone that is missing, and the person is incomplete alone and since BDSM cannot be performed by one person, they need that hole filled by another in the circle. Either a Dominant, submissive or a switch. One needs another to be complete. What is the outer ring? It represents the border of the community, making in a unified Community. A containment of all lifestyle choices and the acceptance, respect and understanding we have for each other. Ownership Tanos 1995 Popular with heads of Leather Families and Kink houses, that have multiple Dominants and submissives. It signifies the rights held by the main Dominant in the house The Shield Tanos 1995 Represents an Owner of a sub/slave The Shield represents the Owner/Dominant of a sub/slave The up pointing arrow represents a Male Dominant. The cross represent the Female Dominant Owned Tanos 1995 The symbol of an owned sub/slave The circle represents the collar worn by the sub/slave The inner symbols represent male and female the same way as the Shield Unowned Tanos 1995 The symbol of an unowned sub/slave The broken square represents an unlocked/open cage or uncollared sub/slave that can be approached The interior symbols again represent the gender of the sub/slave Little Designed by Sully of Beautifully Bound 2016 The symbol of a little of either sex The closed circle represents owned, and off limits The broken square represents an unowned little that can be approached The heart represents the soul inside a little. Polyamory Unknown designer or date The symbol for polyamory The infinite sign showing the long lasting trust of all in the relationship The Heart representing unconditional love by all involved. Switch Unknown designer and date Symbol for a Switch of either sex The arrows showing the choosing to switch between Dominant and submissive The heart representing a single being Either person involved in the relationship can wear this symbol

. Interesting stuff. I wish they'd come up with something more creative than a plain circle with a wee heart inside for my status. I've no idea what I'd replace it with though - it's just seems.... um.... boring? xx

Why would somebody spend time doing this? What is the purpose? Seems illogical to me.

rondiri replies on 7/23/2022 4:08 pm: I guess boring equals discreet. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Thing is, that circle with a heart inside design can be bought in any jeweller shop or online already - it's not unique enough to be a valid symbol of recognition. It's really only someone's nice idea of one unfortunately. xx

Interesting stuff? I don't think so. Oh. If you don't find it interesting then it obviously shouldn't be interesting to anyone else? My mistake rider. For the record, I found the fact that someone had taken the time to come up with the idea, the symbols and the definitions, interesting. The designs themselves - not so much.
