BDSM Memes

We’ve all seen them posted in groups that allow them. Or we’ve seen them in Meme groups, or just if you happen to Google them.
Some are funny,
some are sentimental,
some will teach a bit of the lifestyle.
Unfortunately, some are borderline dangerous and at best fantasy. They do not reflect the principles of the BDSM lifestyle for various reason.
The meme with a submissive chained to the bed by her collar for the night of sleep. Ever see Gerald’s game? Or read the book? What happens in a house fire or burglary?
The meme that says shove it down her throat until her eyes water. Not ALL submissives can handle that, some have been traumatized by it. But the meme makes it seem like the Dominant’s duty.
The memes that tell the submissive to kneel and obey. Why should they? Have they consented yet? Or is the sender of the meme just demanding submission they haven’t earned yet.
Memes are a double edged sword. The educational, funny or sentimental ones are a good thing for all.
The memes that denote unsafe play, or unearned demands for submission, or fantasy erotica can be taken as fact by a novice.
It may be hard to believe, but the same people that think 50 shades of nonsense was a factual representation of the BDSM Lifestyle, can believe every meme they see too.
Posters in my opinion need to think about what they are posting, even with memes. Who will it misinform, what poor habits will it teach the new folks in the lifestyle.
As a Community, we need to police ourselves. We need to keep misinformation from contaminating the novice lifestylers and leading them to do unsafe things.
These edgy memes can be very exciting in a fantasy way. But not everyone joining the lifestyle can tell fantasy from reality.
If one submissive gets harmed because of a meme that sets a bad example, that’s one too many.
But in a world of billions of people, you can be sure more than one person will do what the meme said, and more than one submissive will get traumatized because of it.
Safety first, extends to what we show others in the lifestyle, not just in how we treat our partners.
Causing harm to a stranger anonymously with a meme, is just as bad as harming your partner. You just will never hear about it, in all likelihood.
The trauma will just be posted by a submissive in a group after the fact. The “dominant” will be blamed for following the memes message. But the poster of the meme, is totally ignorant of the damage done.
If you HAVE to post these edgy memes, at least put a disclaimer of some kind so the novice knows the difference.

Memes are merely symbols of BDSM and so of course they are shallow representations of the actual lifestyle....😎
