 Face slapping may be seen in or out of a BDSM scene, as part of sexual interaction, or to punish the submissive for a transgression.
Due to the forceful nature of face slapping, this activity does carry some risk of injury to the submissive. It’s important to proceed with caution.
Face slapping should never be performed in anger. The face should only be slapped with a bare hand that is free of all jewelry and completely clean. Dominants can also get a sense of their own power by slapping themselves first.
The best place to slap is the fatty part of the face between the cheek and jaw bones. A finger slap is the most gentle. Slapping with the palm or full open hand delivers greater intensity which must be controlled. These techniques carry less risk of injury than backhanding. Consent may be given on a play-by-play basis or just once if the slap is an interaction between a master and slave. Consent can also be revoked and constant communication is key. Without consent, face slapping can be categorized as abuse.

Concussions CAN happen with face slapping, either from too hard a slap, or from cumulative blows. And concussions are bad news.
Concussions can affect your day to day abilities in life. An abundance of concussions can result is a deteriorating brain function that will affect you all your life.
Submissives should understand that face slapping IS NOT a requirement of being a submissive. It is just another kink that can be consented to or not consented to. Even if you have consented to face slapping, if you find that it is too intense, has caused a concussion, or you were left bleeding from jewelry, a cut lip or your teeth cut your inner mouth. You CAN revoke consent.
