Compassion article in comments |

Compassion is a word you won’t find talked about often in the BDSM lifestyle. But in my opinion, a Dominant needs to have an abundance of compassion. When a submissive is going through troubling times, the Dominant should be able to be there for the submissive no matter what. While a Dominant cannot fix all problems, they can certainly be there to support the submissive through all problems. This is not to say the Dominant should “bail out” the submissive when problems occur. That is not always practical or wise. But being there with encouragement and advice is always practical and wise. Likewise, it is not usually practical to “command” the submissive to stand up straight and face the issues that are causing them problems. This “taskmaster” approach can often make matters worse and leave the submissive feeling alone, abandoned and despondent. When a Dominant accepts a submissive, they accept the responsibility to be there for the submissive through thick and thin. A submissive’s health and wellbeing are just as at stake during troubling times as it is during scene play. And the health and wellbeing of a submissive is of paramount importance for every respectable Dominant. If a Dominant can’t handle the bad times with a submissive, they don’t deserve the good times with a submissive. © 7/19/23 Ronald Dirienzo
