Being hasty has more than one connotation when it comes to the BDSM lifestyle.
Right off the bat when entering into the lifestyle, being hasty and not learning all you can about the lifestyle and the kinks involved, including play and the instruments used in play, can be very dangerous.
Starting out with little knowledge can make you vulnerable to another’s lies, misconceptions and misinterpretations of what your rights are and about the safety of different kinks.
Later, when vetting a prospective partner, being hasty can lead to missing facts and information about your partner that could save you from a big mistake. “Sub Frenzy” and “Dom frenzy”, the act of rushing into a dynamic for instant gratification of the lifestyle, the kinks and sex as fast as possible, without concern for safety, saneness and being consensual, often leads to abuse and trauma, as well as a SHORT dynamic life.
Once in the dynamic, haste can lead to miscommunication, misunderstanding about protocols and errors in responsibilities. Both partners should take the enough time to rely or understand CLEARLY the expectations, each has for the other, not only in the basic dynamic and responsibilities, but with each days tasks, chores, praises and punishments.
In scene play, haste can get someone hurt. Cutting corners and not being alert, getting carried away, can cause a Dominant to inflict injuries on a submissive. A submissive being hasty in how they carry out instructions or respond to stimuli can also result in injuries.
The old saying is “Haste makes waste.” And you can certainly waste a lot of time by being hasty in the lifestyle. Time you can’t get back and possible traumas that will take more time to heal.
Take your time, learn what you need about the lifestyle and about prospective partners. Be thorough about instructions and never be afraid of asking questions to clarify.
Better to spend extra time, than be wrong.
