Some of the easiest places to injure someone is at the joints of the body.
Ankles, knees, wrists, elbows, shoulders and neck are the flimsiest parts of the body.
Dominants need to take care when doing anything around these points.
Obviously, most of these points are integral to bondage. That is why the rigger needs to be aware of what is happening at all times. These points cut off circulation of the blood when ropes are tight. So you have to be aware of skin color, the bound person’s ability to feel or whether they are going numb.
Nerve damage can also occur in these points. Cuts and abrasions often occur here with tight ropes, especially thin gauge rope. Shoulders can be separated and strangulation can occur when using the neck as an anchor point, so extra care must always be taken if you choose to consent and use these joints.
During impact play, joints are no-nos. The tendons and ligaments are not strong enough to withstand impacts. The same is true for fingers and toes for impact play. They are definitely “red zones”.
Not only are the ligaments and tendons easily damaged, there is far less muscle and fatty tissue around joints to protect from damage. Injuries to joints make life miserable because it hinders the capabilities to function more than non-jointed areas.
No respectable Dominant should want to cause injuries to a submissive. But on top of that, a submissive that is not able to function at their capabilities cannot serve their Dominant properly, if at all depending on the injury.
Lastly, remember, as we get older, our joints fail us as the cartilage erodes with life’s usage. Some protocols need to be adapted to compensate for the loss of abilities due to joint wear.
Keeling is usually the first ability that is lost due to wear and tear on the knees or injury to the knees.
Forcing a submissive to kneel on damaged knees is not seeing to the safety, health and wellbeing of the submissive. Find a way to adapt or the dynamic will probably suffer or end.
The joints of the body are important to consider in the lifestyle. The less you injure them, the longer they will work properly.
