 In many dynamics, something that is usually around are hazards.
From submissives required to be barefoot and getting a splinter from hardwood floors, to muscle and joint strains, to lacerations and bruises, kink play and some protocols can be hazardous.
Everyone should know the hazards of what they are doing before consenting. We all should be aware of the risks involved before partaking in any play. We have to judge for ourselves whether it is considered safe and sane before consenting.
Never let anyone tell you what is safe and sane, decide for yourself. Everyone has different interpretations. A submissive should not “just go along” with something they feel in not safe or not sane, just because the Dominant says otherwise. Especially early in a dynamic or predynamic.
It takes time to find out if two people have the same idea of what is safe and sane. That is part of vetting, learning about your partner.
Most hazards can be avoided with knowledge, experience and safety protocols.
But we should always be prepared for when a hazard becomes an accident and steps need to be taken. Whether that is a simple band aid, using EMT scissors to cut ropes quickly, skin lotion, or a trip to the ER.
Know what you will do before it happens. It could limit the harm caused by the accident and possibly save a life. Not knowing leads to wasted time while someone is in danger or pain.
This is not only common sense, it is a responsibility within the caring for the safety, health and wellbeing of your partner.
