Tedium Unlike what is shown in movies and novels depicting BDSM, there are many things that can be considered Tedious in the Lifestyle. Starting with vetting a prospective partner, the questions and answers, the constant alertness for false answers and duplicity and the being on guard for safety can be very tedious, but is so necessary. Protocols can, over time, become tedious also. Especially in high protocol dynamics. The asking permission and granting permission can seem tedious. But we have to remember that the protocols are indicative of our roles in the dynamic The constant cleaning of equipment and toys can seem tedious, and in my opinion, IS tedium to the nth degree. But is necessary to keep the equipment in good shape and prolong the life of the equipment. Cleaning the toys is a hygienic must to prevent bacteria growth. Safety measure we take for scene play can seem tedious as we play more and more and don’t need the safety measures. But the measures are so important, and if you begin to get lax about them, you will sure end up needing them and be sorry you got lax. There is a reason the movies and novels don’t portray the tedium of the little things that go into a dynamics basic needs. It doesn’t sell tickets or copies. The exciting stuff is all great and we all love to play. But don’t forget the tedious things or ignore them. There are no short cuts to success. If a dominant isn't willing to always put in the work. He can always buy a inflatable doll or become a monk, drink wine and jack off all day.
