 In the BDSM lifestyle and in dynamics there are always options. And there are many of them.
It wasn’t always this way. In the past there were fewer options, but there were always options. No one cloned dynamics or how to live the lifestyle. Everyone had some kind of difference in what they did, enjoyed and shared.
Of course the biggest option we have to choose is our partner. Since no two people are exactly the same, we have to decide who suits us best.
While we choose the best option for a partner, we are also deciding on the options to include in the dynamic. Which protocols and kinks to include while we vet and negotiate with potential partners.
Over the years, options on what kind of time to spend in the dynamic has been added. Not everyone can live a 24/7 dynamic, or even live together due to reasons that weren’t as present in the past. Not all Dominants can afford to support a submissive financially, live in a suitable residence or be open around family and offspring. It doesn’t make the Dominant any less real, it’s just that present day life is different than it was decades ago.
Like everything in life, the Lifestyle has evolved, branched out and added new wrinkles.
All of this has added more options to be considered.
Some people discard the newer options out of hand, just for being new. That’s OK, that’s their choice.
But the options are still there, they are still valid for those that want them or in some cases need them so they can participate at all because of the modern time constraints, distance issues, family and financial restraints.
But choose your options well when you negotiate. It will make life easier during the dynamic, rather than having to change course and change your mind.
