As in life, in any BDSM relationship or dynamic, the unanticipated event will occur.
No matter how well you prepare or try to anticipate, things will at one time or another, go wrong.
It’s how you handle these situations that separate you from others.
The easy way to handle unanticipated situations is to blame someone else, have a hissy fit, and complain.
It’s certainly not the best way, just the easy way.
The ability to think on your feet and make adjustments when something unanticipated happens is a great asset. Not placing blame on your partner for something that is uncontrollable is also a good trait. Controlling your temper is a basic skill all of us should have before entering a dynamic.
Toys, implements and furnishings will break from wear and tear. Unexpected phone calls or other interruptions will interrupt scene play. Plans will have to be changed due to unexpected illnesses or having to work late or extra shifts.
No matter how much we wish for it to not interfere, life happens.
Batteries die, charges wear out, screws and bolts come loose. Anything and everything can happen even if someone is responsible for upkeep and checking items, because no one is perfect and everything should be double checked anyway.
Unanticipated circumstances should be accepted for what they are, unfortunate circumstances. Move forward and learn from the event for the future.
Unless the unanticipated circumstance is a partner breaking the rules and agreements, being abusive, there is no blame worth leveling. Discuss what happened and move on.
