Something I have always believed a Dominant should be, is consistent. A Dominant that is constantly changing in their behavior, way of doing things and most especially in the expectations and implementation of rules and protocols leaves the submissive unsure and jittery of what will happen next. A Dominant with a volatile temperament will find it hard to build trust with the submissive because the submissive will have a fear of the Dominant losing their temper. This kind of fear is a red flag. When a Dominant constantly changes the way they do things, the submissive can’t anticipate the Dominants wants and need. The submissive is always behind the eight ball with satisfying the daily needs of the Dominant. If a Dominant isn’t consistent with rules and protocols, randomly enforcing and not enforcing them, the submissive can get either lazy or frustrated. Even stronger frustration will come if the Dominant tries changing rules and protocols according to their mood. A submissive should know what to expect so they can act accordingly and fulfill their responsibilities properly without wondering if that day’s results will differ from the previous days. So too, should the submissive be consistent in their demeanor and in fulfilling their responsibilities so that the Dominant can have confidence in the submissive, and spend less time correcting and retraining. Consistency gives both partners the ability to anticipate and relax about the other and build trust and respect. © 4/24/24 Ronald Dirienzo
