Trying to catch up.... ..domestically dysfunctional!! :)

It's amazing how much stuff piles up when you decide to take a whole month off of life. I'm also repainting the rooms as I clean the house, but spring cleaning was needed. I enjoy things neat and orderly, but when I get depressed or carried away in the studio, the house gets messy! It's like someone else comes in and messes it up when I'm not looking. I had a couple of deaths in the family this year and it was a difficult time. I was going to shut off my profile because I was getting wonderful notes and I couldn't find it in me to respond. I was just at a loss for words and I surely didn't want to spread any sadness, so I didn't respond. I feel quite like an ass now, since it was rude and selfish of me not to respond in a polite and timely manner. I've been working on sending a reply to everyone that has written and also to all of those that have winked. I don't doubt that I've lost a chance to get to know some of you that have written, purely because of my lack of response. I do apologize and now think back and the solution would have been to just send a short note..or something. So...ok, I do deserve some cornertime! Maybe even a spanking...(not too hard though, cuz I did apologize already!

As I said earlier, I'm spring cleaning as I go through the house. I'm very good at it when I'm motivated and I'm horrible at it all the rest of the time. Well, ok..not horrible. I get complimented on the house quite often and I enjoy a clean house. It's just that I haven't mastered how to keep the outside of the house looking good and the inside looking good all at the same time. What on earth!! If the gardens and yard are looking good and ready for the cover of Homes and Gardens...then the inside of the house falls apart. The inside of the house is a war..a constant battle that is never won but can easily be lost. The dust, the spots, the grease marks, the smudges, the stains, ...what about the brigade of fuzzy bunnies!! I have two cats, so it's just magnified! Tell me more about dusting please..anyone...someone... I will admit that I have too many sculptures and it takes a lot of dusting. The wood furniture needs to be dusted and polished. I think I want a big glass dome over the house so I wont have to dust any more. I am thinking of getting some ionic breezes or something of that sort to suck the dust out of the air. Oh...Origami...or as most of you like to call it, Laundry! I would rather scrub out the gutters with a toothbrush. I'm good at getting it to the washer and dryer (not always in the right order), but then after the dryer, my anxiety rises as the mound of clean laundry stares me in the face and dares me to fold it!!! I do pretty good, but it doesn't look anything like it does in the store. Ok, well, I'll share a few things with you about my past in the domestically dysfunctional category. The following are some of the things I have done in the past, not proudly. When in college, I used to use a 2x4 to jam things into the washer so I could do more wash in a single load. (a neighbor lady explained why I shouldn't do that after she saw me one day and nearly fell over in laughter); I've used ivory bar soap and a grater from the kitchen for the wash. (not a very good idea); I used liquid soap from the sink in the wash. (also not a good idea); I took the dryer apart looking for the missing socks! (I'll never admit this in public); I've bleached the things that didn't need bleach and overbleached the bleached things... I have enough pink shrunken dress shirts to outfit a platoon of Pretty Oompa Loompas. I eventually figured out that dry cleaning was actually cheaper then trying to do it myself. So, they get the dress clothes and I do the rest. Tell me what's up with the Space Control Dash on the washing machine? What ever happened to "ON and OFF". Mild, hot, cold, temperate, hotcold, etc...there are more buttons on the washing machine then I have in the car. I could go on and on about the house cleaning stuff...I really do try, but it's way too much for one guy to keep up with. It's getting late and I need to return another letter or two before sleep... I'll be devoting most of my day tommorow to returning correspondence. Thank you for reading and feel free to leave comments or suggestions...(especially cleaning tips)

Hmm. The only hints I have are for dusting. Always dust before vacuuming. Never spray the polish on the furniture. It justleaves a build up (in spite of what the manufacturers claim) that has to be washed off w/soap & water ever so often. Always spray it on the cloth. If you have lots of "dust catchers", & it sounds like you do, invest in a swiffer duster. I have the extendable one & I swear by it. It really does help cut down on the dust & you can use it instead of doing the whole dusting dance everytime you turn around.

Of course, we could always make a trade. *grin* you come up here & take care of the outside of my house & I come down there to take care of the inside of your house (yes, this includes laundry) hahaha.

OMG.. laughing so hard I have tears running down my face.. You actually took apart the dryer looking for lost socks???...

-laughing again-

okokok...I think I can type now..lmao... whew..

I must admit to being domestically dysfunctional as well. I take that back.. I know how to do it, I just reaaaaaaaally hate doing it so I avoid and procrastinate as long as I can.

One of the more fortunate things of having my disability.. I have someone that comes in now and helps out with those kind of things so I am not living in such a disaster. She takes care of laundry and some general housekeeping things. She hates dusting as well so I think I am going to start making that my chore.

As far as hints... check out flylady.com They have hints and schedules and all kinds of things to help a person get organized about cleaning so that the least amount of time is spent cleaning.

..wishing you luck.. -lolol-
