Poetry in motion Day 11 of 30

April is national poetry month and while I do follow along with my local library's daily selection, this year instead of writing my own poetry or sharing a classic of another, I am sharing songs, well lyrics of songs, that I consider pure poetry. Poetry in motion as it were.

**POST IN COMMENTS DUE POOR SITE FEATURE MAINTENANCE**

Sometimes I make a move, sorry to leave my home, but hope I will find another of equal character.
At night I gaze at the starry mass with no idea to which one the earth attached.
May'be that cute little one over there or that one that sits alone in the inky black

We all have them don't we? Those poems as songs that roll over you like a tidal wave, making you close your eyes, open your ears, throw your head back and tune out the world as the tune itself drowns you in feeling!

If you know me at all, you know I'm a HUGE fan of musicals. Being a 70's girl rock musicals ala Andrew Lloyd Webber are at the top of the list. One of his best known is Jesus Christ Superstar. This year is its 50th anniversary. The tickets I had for March 20th were of course cancelled due to mandatory quarantining as we in Ohio were one of the first states to lock down.

This year is also MY 50th anniversary, which has had me saying Jesus and I are the same age to my complete amusement( no comment on how my mother reacts when I add that she must be Methuselah then)

Ive seen Broadway versions twice, both move versions, regional theater & high school productions as well as last years LIVE tv version on NBC w/ John Legend( )

If you've never seen it at all, I highly recommend it. Its on youtube this weekend(2012 version) by ALW YouTube channel 'The Shows Must Go On! https://youtu.be/GpO4ohqx3os as well as being shown by NBC (tv and streamed) tomorrow at 7 pm EDT. I highly recommend it though there is no resurrection. Its Judas & Jesus w/ a lil bit of Mary M thrown in and oh, some Romans and gogo girls.

Of all the great songs in the show this one is my favorite

Ev'ry time I look at you
I don't understand
Why you let the things you did
Get so out of hand

You'd have managed better
If you'd had it planned
Now why'd you choose such a backward time
And such a strange land?

If you'd come today
You could have reached a whole nation
Israel in 4 BC
Had no mass communication

[BRIDGE]Don't you get me wrong
(Don't you get me wrong, now)
Don't you get me wrong X4

Only want to know
(Only want to know, now)x4

Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ
Who are you? What have you sacrificed?
Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ
Who are you? What have you sacrificed?

[CHORUS]Jesus Christ, Superstar!
Do you think you're what they say you are?
Jesus Christ, Superstar!
Do you think you're what they say you are?

Tell me what you think
About your friends at the top
Now who d'you think besides yourself
Was the pick of the crop?

Buddah was he where it's at?
Is he where you are?
Could Mohammad move a mountain
Or was that just PR?

Did you mean to die like that?
Was that a mistake or
Did you know your messy death
Would be a record breaker?

Don't you get me wrong
(Don't you get me wrong, now) Don't you get me wrong
(Don't you get me wrong) Don't you get me wrong
(Don't you get me wrong, now) Don't you get me wrong

[CHORUS]

Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber "Superstar"

Poetry and emotion in motion. Yeah

I first saw that on Broadway in 1973......high school field trip to NYC. I've seen it many times since at various venues and it still brings chills. I don't think there's any song I could add that would top that

Sweetie, sometimes I just don't even know where or how to begin answering you.

Not much has changed, no, we've just gained a new religion to betray one anotheri n the quest for power and notoriety.

Not just wallabies, you also corrupt koalas, canned goods, mercenaries, porn stars and politicians. I'm not sure what the differences are between those latter 3.

Did you know corn flakes used to be marketed as a morality enhancing calming agent, especially forr educing libido? I think that's why, sans libido maybe, moms would give em to kids before bed like in Hearts in Atlantis. Stephen King. There's nothing he cant cover in his books. The Stand...my fav book ever is # 12 on amazons currently selling list. Not bad for a 40 yr old novel that he thinks is soso.

I do remember you fighting with alt and bird pics. My list of alt complaints is so long right now, Id run out of room. You should riverdance all over these alt bastards for me, mr flatley. If you visit, please send me, collin farrel, Jonathan rhys meyers and killian murphy. They'd look so adorable in my china cabinet and Id die a happy woman just listening to the accents. Fuck it...throw donhall gleason in as well

Butter and bacon fat/lard taste better than oil and dont require as much waste. Leave it to modern times to waste a saving food and lowering its nutrition. I love potatoes but I really need to abandon starches. I dont think replacing potatoes with tomatoes will work. I do love those lil grape tomatoes though. with fresh mozzarella and some balsamic??? yum!

Yes! light 'er up and get to pumpin iron man. I need some kind of avenger action now that the avengers series is done.

Oh, that had to have been so awesome. I get the chills every single time in multiple parts of the show.

Lol if you remember.....how long did it run in hours for a show? Now a days with technology they have it down to about 2 hrs run time since set changes arent as rigorous. When I last saw a broadway production in the mid 90's it was still 3+ hours including intermission.

Ted kicks ass. I wanted to marry Jesus when I first saw the movie as a preschooler cuz he has such pretty eyes. He and Carl Anderson were in the 90 run as well which i thought was awesome. So was Dennis DeYoung.

Girl, you are so right, there isnt a bad song in it and your choice is one of the best. Did you catch the NBC version this year or last? Alice Cooper cracked me up as Herod!

SO I see! I wonder how he ended up on a London cast album if he wasn't in the production? No I don't, lol Hes a wiley guy!

You were right and I agree that there isn't a bad song in it! I'm partial to the female songs especially Could we Start again, please/ but as great as all the songs are, it's those guitar riffs that overwhelm me.

I dunno about you, but as much as I like watching the recorded versions, live stage shows as they were written to be, where we can sing along are so so so much better
