Poetry in motion & a lecture Day 22

April is national poetry month and while I do follow along with my local library's daily selection, this year instead of writing my own poetry or sharing a classic of another, I am sharing songs, well lyrics of songs, that I consider pure poetry. Poetry in motion as it were.

If you've been swept away by a poem, whether or not put music and can help sweep us away, please join in and share your ocean of emotion/poetry in motion as well.

Special thanks drmgirl622, 4Faksake, jenny, mockyloks & tsarah, who have offered suggestions or shared their selections.....It is greatly appreciated!

Sometimes I make a move, sorry to leave my home, but hope I will find another of equal character.
At night I gaze at the starry mass with no idea to which one the earth attached.
May'be that cute little one over there or that one that sits alone in the inky black

We all have them don't we? Those poems as songs that roll over you like a tidal wave, making you close your eyes, open your ears, throw your head back and tune out the world as the tune itself drowns you in feeling!

Another thing is cerebrating a 50th anniversary this year. Earth Day.

In 1969, the world and especially Americas obsession with that slick sign of success, oil at any cost, even at the loss of air and, water, land and lives had reached critical mass and some brave people said ENOUGH!

A massive oil spill choked up hundreds of miles by the time the slick evened out along the California coast. Cities were crushed under prosperous factory smoke clouds and massive blankets of air pollution.

Animal and plant life were being eroded and fertilized into extinction with pesticides and engine run off. Even outside farm country, soil was becoming infertile.

Rivers were catching on fire. The river in MY city as a matter of fact.

Within a year sit ins and gatherings started, piggybacking on the Vietnam anti-war rally's to stand for something on our own ground. Earth day

50 years later we have so much more to do beyond the government regulations and old measures.

We need to take responsibility for what we do and what we use and find better ways.
Reduce the frivolous use of plastics and recycle any and everything you can.
Stop to think about what your planet ,not your grand ch1ldren's homes and technology on mars will look like before you buy anything.

Lastly and maybe most importantly, don't just do and think about these things on earth day, look around and see the wondrous world that breathes for you, feeds you, warms you and keeps you from floating off into space. We haven't killed her yet but its getting dire, so we need to do our best from here on out to answer back to mother earth's embrace... "yes, I love you too cuz you really are a wonderful world!"

"Some of you young folks been saying to me
" Hey Pops, what you mean 'What a wonderful world'?

How about all them wars all over the place?
You call them wonderful?

And how about hunger and pollution?
That ain't so wonderful either."

Well how about listening to old Pops for a minute.
Seems to me, it aint the world that's so bad
but what we're doin' to it.

And all I'm saying is see what a wonderful world
It would be if only we'd give it a chance.
Love baby, love. That's the secret, yeah.
If lots more of us loved each other
we'd solve lots more problems.
and man this world would be a gasser.

That's wha' ol' Pops keeps saying."

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom, for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

I see skies of blue, and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces, of people going by
I see friends shaking hands, sayin', "How do you do?"
They're really sayin', "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more, than I'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Oh yeah!

You are so right! We have to look after our Planet for the next generations especially!

I love the two lyrics you have chosen! So apt!!!

The Lion Sleeps Tonight
The Tokens

(A-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh)
(A-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh)

In the jungle, the mighty jungle
The lion sleeps tonight
In the jungle the quiet jungle
The lion sleeps tonight

Near the village the peaceful village
The lion sleeps tonight
Near the village the quiet village
The lion sleeps tonight
Hush my darling don't fear my darling
The lion sleeps tonight
Hush my darling don't fear my darling
The lion sleeps tonight

Oooooooohhhhhhhhh! I LOVE that picture!

Thank you, Jenny. It really is crucial that we start taking responsibility for ourselves and our blatant over use and abuse of resources in the pursuit of showing off

Send me an angel on the harp???? Really?

I'll go check it out later. I cant even imagine but the cleverness of it makes me grin....angels/harps.

Was that a request to post the song or just you being you, sweetie? Im fuzzy headed today(except for apparently highly functioning irritation with technology) so clear answers are appreciated to the question. Please and thanks
