Second shot --- I didn't actually lie.

As I reported in my last post, I did feel fine hours after my second covid shot. Unfortunately, the next twenty hours were a microcosm of hell. I didn't actually want to die, but I was far from caring. lol From my experience, I suppose your reaction to the second shot depends on what physical limitations you customarily deal with. I don't get headaches, and while headaches are common reactions to the second shot, I didn't experience any. I do have problems with joint and muscle pain, and I got those in spades. I have had infrequent balance issues, which I thought I had successfully conquered. Those showed up in spades as well. I was fastening on to every piece of furniture and doorknob between my bed and the bathroom to keep from falling to the floor. Not having to crawl was a small triumph. Aside from my three trips to the bathroom, I stayed in bed, dreaming in my few lucid moments about things I haven't thought about in ages and at the moment can't recall.

So, for those of you who experienced no ill effects from the second shot, my heartiest congratulations. I actually went out for my customary 2-mile quick-march shortly after getting the shot, which in retrospect may have been an unnecessary display of hubris. My hip joints started complaining after the first mile. For those who haven't had your second shot yet. I recommend you not plan any activities for the succeeding 48hours. You may not be in any condition to cancel them. I missed a zoom conference call the next day and couldn't have cared less. I'm looking out my window at the bright sunshine and am still hesitant about trying another 2-miler, but I think i'll do it anyhow. Science wants to know.

I just received my first shot yesterday and all I have so far is a sore arm.
Others have told me the second one will kick your ass if you have vulnerable body parts. Like you, the joints are not as they used to be. This comes from too many 'hold my beer, watch this' episodes in my youth I suppose.

The first shot may be designed to soften you up for the second one. lol I spent almost all the time sound asleep. The discomfort is already a distant memory.

Yesterday I congratulated you on your 2nd shot, I said I had my first & that my
arm wasn't as sore as when I had my flu shot, no other problems.
Yeah, well I spoke too soon as well, although my problems weren't as bad as yours.

I just had symptems like I was going down with flu.
Still as you say what's little discomfort now, compared with the benifits in the future.
Just think of all those divisions of antibodies being trained up for battle, if they are
needed. Regiments of killer 'T' cells, strapping on their boots & sharpening their
bayonets.

I was very fortunate....a very sore arm but I was relatively unscathed. My Dad's wife had issues similar to yours but she had the Pfizer whereas I had Moderna. I don't know if that makes a difference but delaying any vaccine over side effects doesn't make any sense.

Dreamcatcher__ replies on 2/25/2021 12:40 pm:
I had the Moderna. It seems to me that one of the vaccines initially does start fighting the antibodies in the other until it realizes it's firing on the wrong co-ordinates. If my experience is any indication, pre-existing physical problems, like my dizziness and sore muscles and joints are just vulnerabilities that suffer collateral damage until the vaccines realize there's really nothing there.

I'm with you. Delaying the vaccine makes absolutely no sense. The aggravated discomfort is now in the rear view mirror and I can now comfortably resume my normal aches and pains derived from my misspent youth (and middle and old age).

thx for this insight and glad you have the shots behind you and are feeling better (as it seems!)

Dreamcatcher__ replies on 2/25/2021 12:00 pm:
All of my problems seemed to be related to ailments I had experienced previously. It seems reasonable that the vaccine would aggravate weaknesses that are already present while it's fighting what it perceives to be an invader. Once it realizes there's no threat, it apparently stops attacking. I did go out for another walk about an hour ago and feel fine. As long as you haven't been as stubborn as I've been, doing things like deciding the best way to cure what later proves to be a damaged rotator cuff is to keep splitting firewood until you've gotten through a full cord, you probably haven't created any weaknesses for the vaccine to aggravate.

sorry to hear about your misfortune..
hope all is better now.

Thanks. It wasn't exactly fun, but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. As I told roper2003 below, I'm probably paying for my wasted youth. It so, it was well worth it. Everything seems fine now. If fact I'm heading out for my usual 2-mile quick march in a few minutes to test my recovery. lol

Thanks for the info. Hopefully, none of this will happen in my case

Dreamcatcher__ replies on 2/25/2021 10:08 am:
I hope not, but as roper2003 says below, the best medical advice is to plan a day in bed after the second shot. With luck, you won't need it, and even if you do it's not something you can't handle.

Good luck. Things aren't looking too great in Brazil right now. I hope they start looking better soon.

I had no side effects from my vaccines. My son the MD also told me to plan on a day in bed after my second shot, so I had a nice day off.

I'm probably paying for my wasted youth. I spent most of my money on booze, fast women and slow horses... the rest I wasted. lol

Thanks to that second shot I'm looking forward to lots of nice days off, ideally the winter ones back in Hawaii.

Regardless of this limited unpleasantness, it is far better to get the shot than to risk the alternative. The choice is not even remotely close.

Stay safe out there folks. Help is on the way.
