Bambi - Home Alone

This past Thursday, when I was on my lake in my canoe, skimming some leaves off of the surface in preparation for a picnic and swimming party I was planning for last Saturday, I heard a gunshot down in a ravine. I headed the canoe for shore and walked down to see if a hunter had wandered into my woods. I didn't find anybody but I did notice some movement on the forest floor next to where I was walking. I had awakened a baby deer that its mother had left in a safe spot for the day while she was out foraging.

I took the photo above after I went back to my cabin for my camera. It was still there the next day, which didn't surprise me, since the mother will usually keep using a spot she has determined is safe. I haven't walked down there since. I don't want to cause the mother to move the fawn, but will probably check from a distance with binoculars later this afternoon to make sure it is ok.
