That's big brother watching us dude! Your way more verse with computers than the average Joe. Microsoft has been shoving things down our throats from the get go. 99% of us are never safe when on line for anything. I'm still on 7 pro and Hate 8 and 10. We lost control of your machines when they with to 8. Our privacy is no longer safe and will only get worse. Thanks for the info.

You might consider moving to a Linux desktop.

I used to do all my browsing with 'Tor', not so much anymore. They have overplayed and revealed themselves in the last 4 years. It gets to me, but a victory is a victory.

The longer you stay on 7, the safer you will become: hackers don't target the older platforms. If you don't have the original OS disks, you should look into buying a package that will copy your entire operating system image. I intended to stay on Windows 7 but my OS disk crashed, and I had no way to get the image back. Most vanilla backups will NOT restore on OS on a clean disk. Preserve that "7" forever!

At one time I did lots of development on Unix. It is a fun platform, and I fear I would not be able to resist the temptation to become the Master of All Reality and make my little Linux machine able to override Cheyenne Mountain. Which, yunno, would probably get me in trouble.

Yes, and one of the worst things about it is that backdooring should only be something a musician does to a really fine female ass , in a little black dress, up around her waist.

Now where was I? ... ah ... oh, right ...

If you can follow directions, and you have Windows, the fix isn't that hard to do. Finding it was the difficult thing.

There are so many variants of Windows 10 out there now it would be rash to give an answer without knowing more. If you goog you can find many recipes for backing Win10 back down to Win7. Not all will apply, depending on your configuration.

The general structure is to copy all you data files onto an external drive (a large thumb drive should be sufficient), then do your OS noodling. Most of your programs will need to be redownloaded, however, since they have probably auto updated with Windows 10 OS features that will cause them to crash when they try to run on Windows 7. With this, Windows 7 "original" programs may no longer be available, and those that are might insist you update to their latest program version, which will then scream at you that they can't update until you go to Windows 10. So yes: you might successfully get your computer to boot up with your "new"/old Windows 7, but you won't have anything on your machine that you can do anything with.

The good news is that your "new" Windows 10 configuration, though "slow" actually works. Many Windows 10 updates literally kill the machine whereby it will no longer boot -- the machine is "bricked".

This situation is a small portal into what many call the Deep State. Imagine if car manufacturers were allowed to simply walk away from their products after 5 years: "you either upgrade to the new model, or we will intentionally put out a type of gasoline that your car won't run with". Yet the home computing industry does this all the time to force people to buy new platforms every 3 years, and there is no way to get at these embedded demons to force them to change.

Deep State - learn it, live it, hate it.
