Chances are you've had a job where employees are periodically called together for a meeting of some sort. Some are quick and to the point, while others seem to drag on forever and ever and ever....

Yeah ... I've been to some that go on until everyone is yawning and almost falling asleep. Saying they're boring is a far too generous description of them. Peanut gallery - You know of what I speak, don't you?

Even so, doesn't there always seem to be that person who is intensely interested from start to finish and might be described as the 'Brown Noser'? Never gets bored. Never wants the meeting to end.
Asks endless questions. Hangs on every word out of the supervisor's mouth. Yada Yada Yada .....

We all recognize that person from a job we've had, don't we? Pretty much everyone at the meeting is rolling their eyes to one another with that "Why don't they shut the fuck up?" look. Is this ringing any bells for anyone out there in the peanut gallery?

LOL, we used to have those shift start pep talks, luckily ours didn't last too long.

One of the co-workers was lactose intolerant, and would get a milk shake on the way to work, daily. Shortly after the shift would start, he would start announcing his predicament rather loudly. Luckily he was all bark and no bite. But the supervisor, regardless of how high his title that was doing the meeting, would soon lose all control of the meeting and dismiss it quickly, finished or not.

He actually sounds like a good one to have around ... Keeps meetings short and sweet.

The antidote to the 'Brown Noser'.

Ha! We all have one of those at our respective jobs, don't we? We all know the drill... take a deep breath... exhale... let go...

Plzrmeister replies on 9/29/2021 7:14 am:
Deep breath ... exhale ... roll eyes to co-workers. That's about all you can do a lot of the time.

Or the supervisor might be smart enough to say, "We'll talk about that next time."

Definitely experienced in the past. Now I am working in an agile environment that effectively uses ELMO (Enough, Let's Move On)to keep meetings productive and on time. Anyone in the meeting can raise their hand and declare ELMO when the meeting gets off topic or unproductive for the timeslot. Of course you have to have group consensus for this to work.

This ELMO sounds like a great idea!

It sure does, unless 'Brown' Noser' gets their nose all bent out of shape for getting bypassed.

OMG.....this brought back so many horrible memories !

Plzrmeister replies on 9/29/2021 1:14 pm:
LOL ... Yeah. I think we've all experienced this to one degree or another with co-workers.

Indeed ... I think very few people get excited at the idea of attending a 'meeting'.

You just reinforced how great retirement is. I don't miss meeting like that at all.

Plzrmeister replies on 9/29/2021 1:19 pm:
Yeah ... Ain't retirement grand?

Now it's just the clerk at the check out register that wants to blab non-stop.

A few years ago I was working for a company & it was getting like you
had to have a meeting to discuss when to have the meeting that was
about arranging the meeting to discuss the new product.

We suppied product to supermarkets. So I asked; "how much (name of
large supermarket) paid for these meetings? Because it must be very
profitable judging by how many meeting we were having."

This went down quite well in some areas, in others, not so much!

Plzrmeister replies on 9/30/2021 5:05 am:
Yeah ... Your first paragraph rings a bell and probably does to others too. It's easy to get in a cycle of never ending meetings.

I spent the vast majority of my working years working for, and by myself. Zero meetings! I never missed the days of long, and typically, non productive meetings.
