I suppose you could call me one of those 'traditional' type of people .... or perhaps 'old fashioned'? I decorate for and celebrate the Fall/Winter holidays one at a time. When one's over, I move to the next.

I'm with you. The day (or two) after Halloween, those decorations come down and the Thanksgiving decorations go up. The weekend after Thanksgiving, the decorations switch to Christmas through the first weekend of the new year, when they also are packed away.

I'm seeing lots of Christmas decorations going up and it always puzzles me. If that's your thing, more power to you. Times change and I'm 'old school' on decorations. Hell, even Costco had Christmas trees on display the ass end of August ... WTF?

I hear you dude - It seems really Abby Normal. I get it that merchants have to make their money and the sooner they get shoppers in the better .... It just saddens me to a certain extent. I guess I just miss the good ole days.

CAPITALISM where everyone has a right to make a profit- or not....

Plzrmeister replies on 11/16/2021 5:29 am:
I'm fairly certain capitalism was around when merchants mostly waited until after Thanksgiving to start the season. I seem to remember something called 'Black Friday' the day after Thanksgiving.

Black Friday sales now seem to start right after the 4th of July. An overabundance of Christmas type specials splattered all over the internet right now. God bless them - I hope they make millions ... It won't be from me though until after I've had my Thanksgiving day turkey.

Someone once told me that you can always tell when it is Christmas because there are Easter eggs for sale in the shops

That's right .... I forgot.

The first Black Friday sale of the season ... The Friday after Easter Sunday.

I fully agree Sir, my family too are true traditionalists and give every season a full crack of the whip. (No pun intended)

Excellent sara!

I'm sure you'll carry on with the traditional approach to the holidays.. By the way, like that crack of the whip part!

Well this year with delivery issues everyone is trying to get ahead of the curve.

Plzrmeister replies on 11/16/2021 9:34 am:
That curve is getting earlier and earlier each year.

As noted earlier, people can now buy their Easter baskets and Chhristmas presents at the same time.. Why wait till the last few months?

It seem Christmas decorations go up earlier every year...
My only protest is to not buy any till December...

But my lights and decorations always come out Thanksgiving weekend. As I still like traditions...

And don't ya just love the people who leave them up year around? God bless em ....

Yep - The weekend AFTER Thanksgiving is ordained by God to do your Christmas decorating.

Here in Canada, our Thanksgiving is in early October. So anytime after Halloween we can expect Christmas decorations, ads etc. to show themselves. Many years ago a major department store in a large city dared to have their Santa Claus Parade before Halloween. Parents were outraged.

I can relate ... To everything there is a season.

And my Christmas season starts the weekend after Thanksgiving.

While I will put up Christmas lights before Thanksgiving, if I catch a warmer day to do it, I do not flip the switch on them until the day after. For me, Christmas night is the last night for the lights. Then I just wait until I get a reasonable weather day to take them down.

It totally bugs me that stores start stocking holiday items well before the holidays. I get it, they want to sell as much as they can for the particular holidays, but it makes me not really look forward to them. I dislike hearing Christmas music too early too. I enjoy some Christmas music, but when it starts too early, I get tired of it before the holiday.

Plzrmeister replies on 11/17/2021 5:15 am:
I hear ya about the Christmas music. I'm not much for going to stores, so I don't get too inundated with it. The Christmas ads have started to flood the TV airwaves now ... Ugh.

New Year's Eve is the last night my lights are on. Then all the decorations come down.
