It never ceases to amaze me how many 'friends' some people on here have. I click on their profile, out of curiosity, and it shows they have 2,396 'friends'. OK .... Right. How in the world does one accumulate 2,396 friends? Especially when they've only been a member for two months ..... OK - That's an exaggeration, but you get the point.

I know Ed Zachary what you mean. We only have one friend showing on our profile ... or at least I think we do. This site works in mysterious ways, so maybe each and every friend we've ever had through the years still shows up in our profile when others might click on it. Hey peanut gallery ... We need a volunteer to tell us how many friends show up on our profile.

When I see someone with a gazillion friends, my assumption is that they send out a friend request to everyone and their dog. Is there some point to that? Is there some bonus to having a ridiculous amount of friends one has probably never even spoken to? When you reach 3,500 do you win an Hawaiian cruise? Baffling to say the least.

Yeah it is. Every now and then, someone sends me a friend request just out of the blue. It's a WTF moment and I always decline. Anyone else get random friend requests? I also shake my head at bloggers who have their blog set up so that only 'friends' can comment.. I interpret that as someone collecting friends merely for the sake of collecting friends. Oh well - To each their own.

Well, you have one friend on your profile, and over 4300 photos.

I became friends with someone who closed their blog to non-friends...but I still couldn't read their blog.

Yeah, I get those random friend requests...some I accept, some I decline. The really weird thing is, someone will hotlist me, but they don't show up as having viewed my profile. How the hell does that work?

One friend ... Roger that.

A lot of weird things happen here on ALT ... There seems to be no rhyme or reason for most of them.

The friend collecting has vibes of high school for me.......I didn't like high school!

Having 500+ friends means you're in the 'cool group'.

With only one, we must be real duds.....

Well, considering the concept of quality over quantity, these friend requests seem rather foolish.
Besides, if you want friendship or more, approach and communicate.

Plzrmeister replies on 5/4/2024 10:31 am:
I know ... I don't quite grasp the point of having a sh*tload of friends that one never communicates with.

Ed Zachary. I bet some have never even said "Hi" on the IM, or elsewhere, before they fire off a friend request. WTF?

They are just people full of vanity!
Only friends can answer!
I have something to say and you will agree with me!
You will definitely find out the truth!!!
Just whistle out a thought!
I don't give a damn if it's true! Research? Why?
You are my friend and will be polite to me!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Quite the pot pourri you have assembled and I'm sure each applies to someone.

The collectors certainly make a person wonder what's going on in their heads.

Friends, followers, likes... social media made it all a bit trivial... but then again, thanks to social media I have met some wonderful dear FRIENDS here... but you can't see the figures on my profile, there are none because I am not a collector... What's worth need not showing off... people I respect and consider myself to be their friend, and hopefully it is the other way round - they all know

Plzrmeister replies on 5/5/2024 5:16 am:
That's true .... you know who your friends are and so do they.

Social media has certainly changed the world .... It's become a much smaller place. I think that's a good thing.

I agree with Ex, I couldn't have said it better so I won't try.

Yes, the out-of-the-blue requests always get ignored, Ok, 98% of the time. If I may be interested, different story. Most of the time I don't even see them anymore. I am not a collector of "friends" here or elsewhere.
