Can someone enlighten me about the band queen I profess that music has never been my strong suit. I see the ads for the new freddie mercury movie queen and wondered what was all the big fuss. And yes i know freddie was gay.. but so was liberace and elton john etc So what made queen so unique..from the movies trailer you'd think the band reinvented the wheel and werent commercial in the least. Is the trailer misleading? I mean they still are touring strong and their music is internationally loved. And yes i know freddie is dead and have been replaced by the contestant from american idol So what am i missing here |

You only have to listen to the music that they created to know what the fuss is about. Nothing to do with his sexuality ! But if you still don't get it meh, i guess they aren't for everyone. Decades after this song was released it's still loved and known by many Watch; youtu.be/cZnBNuqqz5g Many of those who sang along weren't even born when that song was released ! Not every band's songs will go on for generations to come  Life So Short, The Craft So Long To Learn

I think your misunderstanding my post. I luv the music but have no frame of reference. What was so scandalous about it for it’s time period. Why wasn’t it commercial How did it differ from the music of its day

Why wasn’t it commercial How did it differ from the music of its day They were unique in their style, harmonies and such, that's all. That's why they stood out from a mass of "soundalikes".

I was just curious. Watch the trailer for the movie. It makes the band out to be something so odd that Noone will play it. Maybe akin to Black Sabbath back in the day They said something about 6 min songs

The showmanship that Freddie Mercury had was like none other and the music was the rock anthem of it's time…….I'm going to go see the movie, oh yeah

Well i was interested in the movie myself. Ive always enjoyed the music and was well aware of freddies vocal talents. But i really didnt know much about the band or their backstory.

Lilli is spot on... or should i say Troy (he is so lucky to have seen them) Also Bohemian Rhapsody saved their bacon as before it's release they were bankrupt (or on the verge). I think that they had asked Freddie to cut the record too but he flat out refused, even with the risk of bankruptcy. Thank goodness ! At the time you had Glam Rock, Rock Music, Motown, Disco, Punk etc but Like Lilli has stated, they never fitted into any boxes. Hence their sound was unique. Freddie was talented vocally and a very gifted musician. Life So Short, The Craft So Long To Learn

A few radios played those 20 min. pieces from progressive rock bands around 1980, like Focus or Jethro Tull.
