I don't care. Why do you?

The entertainment industry is struggling right now, I get that, especially since I am a part of it. We just went through several months dealing with a pandemic that hasn’t gone away, and right now there are riots and protests in the streets because of police misconduct and systemic racism, so it can’t be easy for the people who’s only job and skill is to entertain. It can’t be easy, but I could care less about whether or not we ever get to see a movie in a theatre again, or if the newest superhero flick is having its release date postponed. These things are not tragic, nor are they remotely newsworthy at this time. What they are, is a distraction, which is what they are designed to be. I just happen to think that this moment in history deserves our full attention.

If you are upset about the delay in the filming of the new Matrix film or whatever, you live a very shallow life. Or perhaps you lead a very easy life, if this is the sort of thing you concern yourself with. If not being able to go see (insert band or performer name here) in concert has ruined everything for you, I guess you don’t live for much except to be entertained. That sounds pretty empty to me, but that is the culture of the U.S.: empty, vacuous, self-centered.

I love movies and television shows, and admit they help me make it through the day sometimes, but I can and will survive without whining for one single moment if the next Marvel comics movie doesn’t come out soon. Frankly, I wouldn’t shed a tear if they NEVER made another movie based on a comic book character or superhero. And if they stopped making Star Wars flicks, I wouldn’t lose any sleep. It’s time to tell some different stories, don’t you think?

Even if you take away the pandemic and the social discord, there are still so many things to get upset about right now. Try being passionate about something that deserves that energy, and maybe even gives it back, or at the very least forwards it to the rest of the world. Worry about things that truly matter - there will always be entertainers and entertainment, waiting for your attention when you are done.
