motorhome blues update - Sept. 2020

The motorhome has been sitting just two blocks away, in the same spot, but thankfully nothing bad has happened to it. Nobody has vandalized it, or attempted to break in as far as I can tell, and there are no signs posted on it by any authority, threatening to tow it away. So far so good.

I needed to start it up though, and drive it to get some , so I borrowed the jumper cables eve has in her car and used my vehicle to get the motorhome started. It was mainly a test to see if it could be done, after sitting for so long. It took a bit of doing, but I am happy to say it did happen. The next I asked eve to help jump start it again, and then she followed to the station so I could get some fuel in it. My fears I would need her to jump me again were realized when I tried to start it up after turning off the engine so the attendant could put in it. I know I’ll need to drive it more than a couple miles to get the battery charged up, so it’ll have to be this way until I can take it in for repairs. After getting I drove it back and parked it in the exact same spot it was before, and there it sits, waiting for me to help it get better.

I contacted a friend of mine about helping me replace the generator because he is an electrician, and I thought he might want to flex his skills, but he has only been at it a short time so his knowledge is limited. I’m going to try and get the propane tank fixed if I can find a place close by, because the motorhome obviously isn’t completely broken down, but it definitely needs attention, and I don’t want to push it so far that I make things worse. If I can’t find a business close to me, I might have to to have someone mobile come and it. Nothing about this dang thing has been easy, and it doesn’t like it will get that way any time soon.

I rode my bike past a similar Southwind motorhome parked on someone’s property, but haven’t returned to the area to see if I can get advice from them on where to get mine worked on. I’m thinking I’ll do it this weekend when they are more likely to be home, and receptive to some random stranger showing up at their door.

When I purchased the motorhome there was some water damage in one area, and to be honest with you I haven’t addressed that issue yet because, frankly, I don’t want to spend any more time or on something I am not sure is going to work . So last night, when we had a small rainstorm, I went to have a and see if there were any obvious, immediate issues to tackle but everything appeared to be holding up well. Time will tell, but (fingers crossed) this seems to be one less thing I have to worry about right at this moment.

October is approaching, and eve wants me to vacate my room, so I may be forced to move out while the engine is still still in need of repairs, but maybe I can get the rest of it up and running so even if I can’t hundreds of miles from Woodburn I can get far enough away to escape the noise that so fucks with my head. It’s going to be a very last-minute affair no matter what happens.
