a hard lesson to learn - the motorhome blues' (convoluted) conclusion

An expensive lesson learn too, to the tune of roughly four thousand dollars. You better believe I don’t feel good about that, especially at a time like this, when money is so tight for everyone. There are so many things that I could do with that amount of cash right now…

So let me wrap this by telling a few anecdotes and maybe complaining a bit before hopefully never mentioning any of this debacle again.

Roughly two weeks ago, I wrote a post titled “when worlds collide” and it talked about my attempts sell the motorhome via , and how my attitude and demeanor there had been modified reflect that. In other words, I was my best behavior while trying sell the motorhome. The impetus to that post was a text message from a woman who had come to look at the vehicle, and was committed to purchasing it. She’d taken a gander at my posts and was thankfully not bothered by anything I’d recently said or done there. I even openly hoped she would continue read my blog once our transaction was complete.

Well, this woman had a difficult time getting the money together to for the motorhome but I fully believed in her intentions, so I not only gave her extra time, I stopped replying to people who were inquiring about it on . I went an entire weekend ignoring quite a few inquiries, only have the woman still not follow through. Messages were again exchanged, assurances given, but in the end she did not keep her word. An entire week passed before I finally gave her.

It took another week after that to finally get the rig sold. Two more people came to see it, the same day, and one of them committed purchasing it shortly after. Once again, they had an issue getting the money together, and I couldn’t help but wonder why the people I’d encountered were so unprepared? prospective buyers had professed the need for some time get the money - was the purchase a spur of the moment thing? If not, why not have the funds readily available? I understand why someone would want be cautious, and perhaps not show with a few thousand dollars in their wallet, but at least you could have it out of the bank and waiting for you at home somewhere. Nobody could manage get more than a few hundred dollars out in a day, which is why it took buyer number one a week, and buyer number two roughly four days. I don’t know about you, and I don’t know why this isn’t considered common sense, but if I went looking to purchase something I knew was going to cost a few thousand dollars I wouldn’t show with the intention of asking the seller hold it for for several days while I got the money together. If I was worried about my safety I’d just leave the cash at home and go retrieve it when it was time to finalize the deal. Apparently I am one out of four people that feels and acts this way.

The absurdity of the offers I was receiving increased as I lowered the price. Eventually people were offering me a third of what I was asking, and requesting to make payments for the rest. Many claimed to be homeless, or close to it, and as much as I sympathized I couldn’t help them. A few sent me very personal stories that I’m sure they hoped would sway me, but the best I could do was wish them luck. One thing I noticed, that seemed rather odd, was the propensity for people to specify that they were offering cash. As if I had stated, or even hinted anywhere, that I was open to anything else.

Yes, it was a hard, expensive lesson to learn. In addition to the money lost, it also cost me time, and caused the destruction of a plan I had hatched that involved the motorhome and my porn. Months of waiting and wasting precious dollars, when I could have maybe been building a recording studio. Perhaps I’d have an album done already. Instead, I’m back to square one on that, and just about everything else in my life. The motorhome stood for so many possibilities - it also stood for escape from a few things I’ve been struggling with - but those have all been dashed. What shall replace them?
