another avenue of expression; closed

When I am online, no matter what the site, I tend ignore anything that pops up and forces hit “accept” or “got it” or any variation thereof. That’s right; I don’t even read the regular print, let alone the fine print, I just hit the button so I can get on with my day. As a result, I can sometimes inadvertently be found guilty of things I should have known better than to do, because I had indicated with a click of the button that I agreed not to several days weeks months ago. I plead<b> innocence </font></b>and stupidity, and usually get away with a warning, which is all I really need. The warnings get to the point: you cannot do _______ and you have done it, so don’t do it again. The initial notices are meandering and sometimes vague, so I’ll take the specific warning over that any day.

ManyVids recently put one of those pop up things in my face that had to do with external links, and I knew when I clicked the “got it” button that I should probably see what it was about, since I do utilize half a dozen of those, but I chose to just barrel forward as usual. Then May 20th rolled around and they instituted something they’d warned me and every other content creator about, but I was unaware of: there would be no more external links leading out of ManyVids. You could only put links to your store, videos, profile and so on within the site. No more advertising OnlyFans, or any of the other competing sites in other words. It was done under the guise of safety, which is both insulting and ridiculous, but I don’t get the impression lying to the faces of the people who make the is a big deal. We are just pieces of meat and dollar signs those higher up, and this proves it. I want promote my music and writing, but won’t be able . If it’s not about sex, or directly connected ManyVids, they don’t want it there.

There are a few arbitrary exceptions, and it just so happens I am not connected most of them. We have a tiny social media spot in our profile section, and along with Facebook and FetLife I think there’s also and Twitter. My completely harmless Wordpress blog is verboten, as is my ReverbNation band page, and tumblr page. Because, you know, for safety reasons. I doubt anyone has been hurt by a Wordpress blog but I could be wrong. Perhaps they are more dangerous than I can imagine!

Every time I find a place that seems “have it all” they decide start putting up road blocks and taking what is good and turning it into garbage. There is no place I can write exactly what I want and also post the pictures that I want - it has to be one or the other. On Wordpress I could probably type anything and it would never be censored but on places like Alt you can’t even have words like “there” and “in” on some days. On FetLife I can get away with writing about almost any topic and posting almost any picture, but they too have an algorithm that is always searching, always censoring. Alt has never allowed external links, and until recently FetLife was pretty cool about them going just about anywhere, but they changed their policies as well. Now ManyVids is following suit, cutting off my roads to free expression and ease of sharing said expression without censorship. It feels bizarre to be on a thing like the world wide web, where you’d think freedom would almost be a given, but instead you have to find dark sites on dark webs to really get unedited content. That’s what it is like in the year 2021 - I never saw that coming.
