"Chicken People"

A couple of days ago I finished watching a documentary called “Chicken People”. It focuses minimally on information about the animals, and spends much more time on the people taking care of them, and showing them off in contests. Some of the videography was amazing because they took the time to put breeds on display I never knew existed. They were strange, gorgeous, and often flashy as most species are known to be. But like I said, not much time was really spent on the birds, this was a film about the people.

I can only remember 3 / three main “characters” and of them, I was left with the following impressions:

The effeminate show tune singer was a bit of a drama queen and by the end of the film I was irritated with his face.

The likable loner should have done some grooming, knowing they were going to be filming him, because he had a nice, long hair hanging out of his nostril the entire movie.

The lady with the poofy chickens was likable, even relatable, but mostly forgettable.

It’s a cute documentary made by the folks at CMT (that’s Country Music Television) that I think my mother-in-law will enjoy, so I’ll be sending the DVD to her. She’ll get a kick out of some of the other caretakers that are briefly showcased, and their quirky personalities.

One final, surprising note: I thought at first the filmmakers would overdue the sound of chickens clucking and bawking, but to their credit they did not. This sufferer of misophonia had no problem with the sound at any time, which must mean the people who did the recording and mixing are masters at their jobs, because the place where they were doing the contest was huge, and housed hundreds of birds. Thankfully I can only imagine the cacophony - it wasn’t piped into my speakers at insane volumes, at any time. That’s just pure luck as far as I’m concerned. The film should have driven me crazy, but it did not.
