2 for 1 origin story

“They call Jeeg” is an Italian superhero movie.

It is actually the origin story of 2 / two characters; the bad guy and the good guy. The “how it happened” part is fairly typical, but it is how the main character comes to the point where he decides to use his newfound powers for good that I found compelling. Some of it was cliche’, and how could it not be? Differing variations of this story have been done by just about every major filmmaking group, and I’m sure it’ll continue to happen as long as people like these stories. I was no fan of “Joker” but quite enjoyed “They call me Jeeg”. Yes, the villains are still a bit too over the top, but I don’t think the average viewer reacts well to subdued, subtle roles anymore. If you’re a bad guy you have to act accordingly by thrashing about, yelling a lot, losing your temper, making faces, dressing in strange clothing, etc. Viewers still aren’t thrilled by villains that look like them, they want cartoons, and this movie delivers in that sense. The bad guy is a loud mess and the superhero is a quiet, yet simmering ball of confusion. I felt no kin to the “Joker” character but that was not the case with the good guy character in “They call me Jeeg”. I could see myself in him, and perhaps that is one of the reasons I liked it so much.
