common stupidity?

If you were running from someone and they hopped in a vehicle and began chasing after you, would you continue to run in the same direction as they quickly gained on you? Instead of veering off to one side or another, or really doing anything to evade capture, would you just keep running straight until the car, truck or van caught up and hit you, or sped past and blocked your way? If so, you are a victim of commons stupidity as it is seen an portrayed in movies.

If you had been kidnapped and your captors placed a gag in your mouth, bound your hands at the wrists, but left them in front of you instead of secured behind you, would you just sit there for hours, maybe even days, with that gag still in place? Your fingers are free, you can move your arms, and it would actually be quite easy to just reach up and pull that gag out of your mouth. It’s not locked on, and it’s not so tight that you couldn’t wiggle it over your jaw. If that was the case, what would be the reason for you continuing to sit with it in your mouth? My guess is that you are using common stupidity to make it through this tough time.

I am nearly 50 / fifty years old and have been a fan of horror movies and thrillers since forever. And after nearly 5 / five decades of watching films I am appalled that you can still see examples of what I’ve just sarcastically described written into scripts, and shown on big budget projects. Are writers still that inept or is the general viewing audience still that sad and gullible? I truly don’t understand it.

What are some example of common stupidity you continue to see in films? It’s become a cliche’ to talk about hearing a scary noise and going down in the basement, alone, to investigate. Stubbornly remaining in a seemingly haunted house is another example I’m sure most of you are familiar with. Why do you suppose dumb things like that are still written into movies? Is it just laziness? Or do you perhaps think that the situations I’ve described are in fact normal, and would play out just as presented? I know I won’t get any responses but I sure am curious…
